About The Position

Welty Energy is seeking a Senior Substation and Transmission (S&T) Estimator for its Energy team. The role creates utility project estimates, serves as an extension of clients, consults on select projects, supports the Welty Project Management Team, and mentors junior Estimators. The position may be performed remotely from the mainland United States and operates in Eastern Time hours. Work involves utility power equipment for line and substation projects ranging from 25kV to 765kV.

Requirements

Ability to manage a high-volume workload while communicating effectively with internal and external clients.
Solid understanding of engineering design and drawing packages.
High school diploma or GED required.
At least 8 years of experience in transmission line design, substation design, or utility estimating, specifically focused on Substation and Transmission work.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a similar technical field.
Experience with Sage Estimating, Navigator, OPPM (Primavera P6), Google Earth, or PLS CAD.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
Experience with substation or transmission line design, construction, and/or testing aligned with estimating experience.
Ability to mine and analyze data.

Responsibilities

Produce conceptual new transmission and distribution line routes in Google Earth KMZ files, including pole placements.
Create preliminary project schedules that account for lead times, crews, construction durations, and siting.
Write scopes of work for conceptual and pre-funding approval projects.
Work with internal substation layout teams on preliminary substation designs.
Create and review substation and transmission/distribution line estimates using Sage and Navigator software.
Review and assist with supplemental support estimates, including access roads, forestry, SCADA/IT networks, fiber, testing and commissioning, and related work.
Coordinate with scoping and estimating team members, planning and protection engineering, sponsors, regional contacts, and supplemental support estimate staff.
Attend regional meetings with planning, protection, and other stakeholders to review the status of open estimates.
Review, approve, or reject estimate requests in OPPM.
Build accurate project schedule timelines for substation, transmission line, and support estimates.
Consult on select projects, assist the Welty Project Management Team, and mentor junior Estimators.
