Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a focus on structural engineering.
- 10+ years of relevant experience with a strong focus on bridge design and rehabilitation.
- A Maryland Professional Engineer (PE) license (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
- Experience in steel and concrete bridge design.
- Strong knowledge of AASHTO LRFD code requirements.
- Experience with MDOT SHA, DDOT, or similar agency standards.
- Proficiency in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD for bridge projects.
- Experience with structural analysis and design software (e.g., OpenBridge, STAAD, LARSA, or similar).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Nice To Haves
- A master's degree in civil engineering with a focus on structural engineering.
- Experience managing large, complex transportation projects.
- Experience with bridge load rating, rehabilitation design, and inspection programs.
- Familiarity with design-build or alternative delivery methods.
- Experience with tunnel design, inspection, or rehabilitation projects.
Responsibilities
- Managing bridge and structural engineering projects, including client coordination, scope, schedule, budget, staffing, subconsultant oversight, and quality control.
- Leading structural analysis and design for transportation structures such as bridges, retaining walls, box culverts, and pipes.
- Overseeing the preparation of engineering calculations, plans, specifications, and design drawings.
- Managing and delivering bridge design and rehabilitation projects from concept through final design.
- Conducting and overseeing fieldwork, including site visits and bridge inspections (based on NBIS), and reviewing inspection reports.
- Performing and reviewing load ratings for bridges and culverts.
- Reviewing drawings and reports to develop design alternatives, repair recommendations, and cost estimates.
- Confirming work is in compliance with AASHTO, MDOT SHA, and project-specific standards and requirements.
- Managing multidisciplinary teams, including roadway, geotechnical, and environmental staff.
- Serving as a technical lead and mentor to junior engineers and staff.
- Supporting business development efforts, including proposal preparation and client coordination.
