About The Position

The Senior Stationary Equipment Mechanic is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of multiple wastewater treatment facilities through skilled mechanical repair, preventive maintenance, and equipment diagnostics. This role involves hands-on work on a wide range of plant systems, including pumps, compressors, grinders, aerators, sludge handling equipment, and associated piping, to support continuous 24-hour operations. The incumbent will interpret shop drawings and manufacturer specifications, complete scheduled inspections, respond to equipment malfunctions, and perform corrective maintenance to minimize downtime.

Requirements

Valid Louisiana driver's license
LA DHH-OHP Wastewater Treatment IV certification or the ability to obtain certification
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
Minimum of two (2) year's experience in working with mechanical equipment in a wastewater environment.

Responsibilities

Perform hands-on mechanical work on a wide range of wastewater treatment plant systems, including pumps, compressors, grinders, aerators, sludge handling equipment, and associated piping.
Support continuous 24-hour plant operations by diagnosing mechanical issues, troubleshooting malfunctioning equipment, and performing corrective repairs to minimize downtime.
Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance activities such as greasing components, changing oil, checking and replacing belts, lubricating bearings, and cleaning valves and chambers.
Follow the established Preventive Maintenance Program (PMP) and complete all required daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual inspections.
Interpret shop drawings, technical diagrams, and manufacturer specifications to perform accurate installations, repairs, and adjustments.
Disassemble mechanical equipment, replace worn or damaged parts, and complete minor piping repairs as needed.
Perform site visits to multiple wastewater treatment and package plants to inspect equipment, review system performance, and identify maintenance needs.
Maintain inventory of operating supplies, request materials as needed, and assist with unloading supply deliveries using a forklift.
Conduct routine vehicle maintenance and assist with upkeep of plant tools and equipment.
Address operational needs as they arise, including clearing debris from pumps, diagnosing chemical feed issues, blowing out sludge lines, and performing plumbing repairs.
Monitor and coordinate with contractors to ensure work aligns with operational and safety standards.
Perform annual maintenance on generators and clean tanks as part of scheduled maintenance programs.
Participate in quarterly One-on-One meetings with Supervisor.
Complete all required annual trainings-including ethics, harassment prevention, diversity, and cybersecurity-in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
Ensure all duties and responsibilities are performed with integrity, professionalism, and in good faith, consistently upholding and protecting the interests, reputation, and assets of the Parish government.
Perform any additional task as required by Supervisor.
