About The Position

A Pollution Control Analyst II conducts investigations in the field to obtain data for determining sources of pollution and methods of controlling pollutants. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek; some employees work a rotating shift and are subject to callback. Work is performed outdoors where incumbents are exposed to noxious odors, raw sewage, hazardous wastes, working in manholes and inclement weather. Work requires moderate physical exertion including prolonged walking or standing and lifting.

Requirements

Have a Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or related field from an accredited college or university.
Have two years of experience in pollution investigation and control work in one of the following fields: stormwater management; wastewater treatment plants; design of treatment or drainage facilities; water, wastewater or soils laboratories; pollution or erosion control or soil studies.
Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of pollution investigation and control.
Knowledge of laboratory procedures related to waste or soils studies, treatment and drainage facilities or geology or soils management.
Knowledge of engineering principles related to the field of pollution studies, stormwater management, waste treatment, and drainage or soils management.
Knowledge of pollution control analysis techniques.
Knowledge of statistics.
Ability to interpret engineering processes or drainage reports.
Ability to analyze data and prepare technical reports.
Ability to conduct stream, stormwater, waste, industrial or soil studies.
Ability to interpret plans for pretreatment processes.

Nice To Haves

Some positions of the Pollution Control Section must possess and maintain a current license as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist from the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists.
