Senior/Staff Software Engineer – Site Reliability & Infrastructure
About The Position
General Intuition is hiring a Senior/Staff Software Engineer focused on site reliability and infrastructure for Medal. Medal’s infrastructure supports billions of clips, video ingestion pipelines, and social features at massive scale. The role focuses on reliability, incident response, scaling, and ensuring infrastructure keeps pace with company growth. The engineer will own the on-call rotation, lead postmortems, and work directly with engineering teams to meet their infrastructure needs. The position is suited to someone experienced in startups and scale-ups, including handling production incidents and scaling databases under pressure.
Requirements
- Strong fluency in Terraform and real experience owning infrastructure-as-code at scale.
- Hands-on experience running Elasticsearch for user-facing features, rather than only as a log sink.
- Deep experience with GCP, including Kubernetes, VPC, IAM, Cloud Logging, and managed services.
- Deep, hands-on experience scaling and sharding relational databases such as MySQL or Postgres in production.
- Ability to communicate clearly and rapidly during incidents and lead actionable postmortems.
- Experience with GitHub Actions in a production environment.
- Experience working in startups or scale-ups and comfort with rapid growth.
- Sound judgment in choosing durable, sustainable fixes over short-term patches.
Responsibilities
- Own the on-call rotation.
- Respond to production incidents, including P0 incidents, calmly and clearly.
- Drive and lead postmortems, writing actionable findings that prevent recurrence.
- Work directly with engineering teams to meet their infrastructure needs.
- Scale and maintain infrastructure to support company growth and reliability.
