About The Position

EarnIn is seeking an experienced, resourceful Senior Staff Software Engineer to join its product engineering team. The role works cross-functionally with multiple teams to design and develop core products, while owning architecture across business units and helping keep product logic, policy, and funds flow in appropriate layers. The engineer will drive shared-system decomposition and unification, guide architecture standards, and help teams adopt changes incrementally. The role also sets technical direction for responsible AI-assisted development, using AI tools in daily work and building agents, skills, and documentation that make architecture understandable to engineers and AI coding agents. The engineer mentors Staff and Senior engineers, contributes to hiring and onboarding, and represents engineering in discussions with product, risk, and leadership. This is a full-time hybrid position based in Mountain View, requiring two days of in-office work per week. The stated Mountain View base salary range is $279,000–$341,00-00, plus equity and benefits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 10+ years of backend or full-stack software development experience, with a track record of designing and evolving large distributed systems.
  • Demonstrated experience defining domain boundaries and service contracts across multiple teams.
  • Practical knowledge of domain-driven design, event-driven systems, and clean architecture.
  • Hands-on, daily use of AI coding and design tools, with concrete examples of how they changed work practices and results.
  • Experience leading cross-team technical initiatives and influencing without direct authority, including resolving disagreements between teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including the ability to turn complex trade-offs into clear decisions and documentation.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, results-driven environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in fintech, payments, or other regulated, high-reliability environments.

Responsibilities

  • Own architecture spanning business units, defining domain boundaries and placing cross-cutting concerns, product logic, policy, and funds flow in the appropriate layers.
  • Lead design and architecture reviews across business units and document decisions in durable architecture decision records.
  • Drive decomposition and unification roadmaps for shared systems, including dividing user state across domains and sequencing work for incremental adoption.
  • Prevent accumulated complexity by incorporating deprecation, experiment cleanup, and clear ownership into system design.
  • Partner with Platform, Money Platform, and business-unit engineering leads to develop practical, adopted standards and avoid duplication.
  • Use AI tools daily for design exploration, code analysis, and review; build agents, skills, and documentation that make architecture legible to engineers and AI coding agents.
  • Establish practices and guardrails for responsible AI-assisted development so AI-generated code is consistent with the architecture.
  • Mentor Staff and Senior engineers through design reviews, code, and architecture guidance, and raise the technical bar across teams.
  • Contribute to hiring and onboarding.
  • Represent engineering in technical discussions with product, risk, and leadership.
