Senior/Staff Software Engineer

Fluxcap•Washington, DC
•$170,000 - $220,000•Hybrid

About The Position

FluxCap is hiring a hands-on Senior or Staff Software Engineer to build software that helps litigators connect law, evidence, and case strategy. Working directly with the CTO, founders, and legal engineers, the engineer will own features across the stack, from lawyer-facing interfaces to data models and AI workflows. The work includes developing systems that preserve the distinctions between competing interpretations of evidence, show the sources behind conclusions, and incorporate lawyers’ corrections as cases develop. This is an individual-contributor role involving production coding, architectural decisions, and responsibility for how shipped work performs. Senior engineers own a major product area; Staff engineers also lead technical decisions across product areas and help carry them through implementation. FluxCap’s stack includes React, Next.js, TypeScript, and Postgres with pgvector. The role is hybrid and based in New York City or Washington, DC. Candidates willing to relocate are welcome. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States; FluxCap is not currently able to sponsor visas. Compensation is an annual base salary of $170,000–$220,000 plus competitive equity.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience shipping production software, including responsibility for designing, building, and maintaining a significant product or system.

  • Experience building and operating LLM-powered features, including retrieval or agent workflows.
  • Experience making architectural decisions under constraints such as deadlines, cost, or performance.
  • Ability to work through unfamiliar problems with lawyers, explain technical choices, and give useful feedback to other engineers.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Curiosity about the legal domain and care for sensitive information.

Responsibilities

  • Own major features from initial design through launch and ongoing use.
  • Design data models connecting claims to the facts and evidence needed to prove them, preserving sources and allowing lawyers to record competing interpretations.
  • Build workflows that extract people, events, and timelines from documents and help lawyers identify gaps in evidence.
  • Build evaluations and review tools that catch AI errors and incorporate attorney corrections without exposing information from other cases.
  • Make tradeoffs involving reliability, performance, and cost.
  • Review code and help other engineers work through technical decisions.
  • Write production code and remain responsible for the performance of shipped work.
