Staff Software Senior Engineer

Accenture Federal Services•Washington, DC
•$157,900 - $310,700

About The Position

The Staff Software Senior Engineer leads end-to-end product engineering across complex, multi-team programs. The role partners with product, business, architecture, infrastructure, and security teams to deliver and scale products, owning technical vision, product architecture, and execution from concept through release and iteration. The engineer helps increase delivery velocity and speed to market while aligning technical decisions with customer outcomes and client goals. The role defines architectural guardrails, translates strategy into technical roadmaps, writes and governs product code and tests across the stack, and manages the product delivery lifecycle. It establishes modular application architecture, stable APIs, data models, performance practices, cloud-native platforms, CI/CD processes, and engineering standards. The engineer also serves as a primary technical authority and mentor, communicates progress and risks to leadership, and uses telemetry, experiments, and customer feedback to drive ongoing improvement.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of software development experience.
  • 8+ years of full-stack development experience, including back-end Java/Python, front-end Angular/React, SQL and NoSQL data, and AWS cloud.
  • 5+ years developing, testing, and launching production software.
  • 3+ years leading product architecture and technical design.
  • 1+ years building AI-enabled product features and/or improving delivery through AI solutions.
  • US citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government clearance.
  • US work authorization that does not now or in the future require visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Define a product-level technical vision aligned with customer outcomes and client goals.
  • Establish architectural guardrails, interfaces, patterns, and conventions that support rapid, high-quality iteration.
  • Use business, user, and operational signals to prioritize work for accelerated time to value.
  • Design and integrate AI capabilities with clear interfaces, guardrails, and observability.
  • Translate strategy into technical roadmaps, sequencing work by impact, effort, risk, and learning value.
  • Manage the complete product delivery lifecycle, from conceptualization and development through launch and iterative enhancement.
  • Write product code and tests across back-end, front-end, and data layers.
  • Govern multiple product codebases; set measurable objectives and maintain code quality, engineering throughput, and release predictability.
  • Use AI tools for code generation, test authoring, defect triage, and documentation to shorten feedback loops and improve developer throughput.
  • Establish domain-driven modularity, bounded contexts, separation of concerns, and service/component composition.
  • Design stable, versioned REST APIs and schemas, maintain backward compatibility, and protect integrations through contract testing.
  • Model relational and NoSQL data; enforce integrity and validation; and plan indexing and migration strategies.
  • Engineer for performance and scale using caching, pagination, batching, and concurrency controls; set performance budgets and profile regularly.
  • Design cloud-native products using modular microservices, event-driven patterns, and clear REST, streaming, or batch contracts.
  • Standardize containers and orchestration with repeatable deployment paths.
  • Implement SQL/NoSQL, caching, and Kafka/Pub/Sub data and streaming foundations for low-latency, high-throughput experiences.
  • Run CI/CD using trunk-based development, automated tests, and progressive delivery such as feature flags and blue-green deployments.
  • Set standards for clarity, reliability, performance, security, and observability, and embed modern SDLC practices.
  • Serve as a primary technical authority and mentor.
  • Lead design reviews and improve documentation.
  • Provide concise, data-driven updates on status, risks, trade-offs, and decisions to executives and cross-functional leadership.
  • Build stakeholder confidence through transparent communication and fast, measurable results.
