About The Position

CesiumAstro is seeking a Senior Staff Power Electronics Engineer for its Skylark product line, which designs and tests active phased array antennas for terrestrial and airborne applications. The role leads the design, development, integration, and verification of power conversion and power distribution hardware for complex products and platforms. It addresses complex engineering challenges, advances power electronics methodologies, and serves as a primary technical resource across multiple programs to improve efficiency, reliability, and mission success. The engineer works cross-functionally with electrical, systems, mechanical, FPGA, software, manufacturing, integration and test, quality, and program teams throughout the product development lifecycle. The position also provides technical guidance, mentors engineers, and advances engineering practices, verification methods, processes, and configuration management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, power electronics, electronics engineering, or a related engineering field with 12–15 years of related experience; or a master's degree with 8–12 years; or a PhD with 5–8 years of related experience in power electronics, electrical design, power conversion, hardware development, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Advanced application of power electronics engineering principles, power conversion, analog circuits, and electrical power systems.
  • Extensive experience developing complex power conversion architectures, voltage regulation solutions, and electrical power subsystems.
  • Strong understanding of thermal management, magnetics, power semiconductor devices, electrical testing, qualification, and verification methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve highly complex power electronics engineering problems requiring ingenuity across multiple development efforts.
  • Sound judgment in guiding technical decisions, mentoring engineers, and advancing power electronics engineering practices.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Experience with circuit simulation, power electronics design, and analysis tools such as LTspice, PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink, Altium Designer, or equivalent applications.
  • Experience with engineering analysis, configuration management, and collaboration tools such as Windchill, Git, Jira, or equivalent applications.
  • Must meet U.S. government space technology export regulation eligibility requirements: be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, conditional resident, asylee or refugee (protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)), or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop power conversion architectures, voltage regulation solutions, and electrical power subsystems across multiple programs.
  • Advance design methodologies by evaluating efficiency targets, thermal management, magnetics, switching topologies, and component selection.
  • Lead complex engineering analyses, design reviews, and technical evaluations to resolve challenging power electronics issues.
  • Lead power electronics integration, laboratory testing, hardware bring-up, troubleshooting, verification, and qualification activities.
  • Evaluate electrical performance, efficiency, thermal behavior, laboratory measurements, and engineering risks, and develop reliability improvements.
  • Guide verification planning, qualification testing, root cause investigations, engineering changes, and design validation.
  • Serve as a primary technical resource for power electronics engineering across development efforts, coordinating between engineering disciplines.
  • Provide technical guidance through design reviews, engineering investigations, technical discussions, and complex problem resolution.
  • Mentor engineers and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Advance power electronics design practices, verification methodologies, engineering processes, and configuration management across programs.
  • Evaluate engineering methods, testing approaches, and development processes to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Lead initiatives to improve efficiency, reliability, manufacturability, and design quality.
