About The Position

The Senior Staff Physician is responsible for providing high-quality, evidence-based direct patient care to students in the UNLV Student Health Center (SHC) and to faculty, staff, and dependents age 5 years and older in the Faculty and Staff Treatment (FAST) Center at UNLV. This position provides excellent, compassionate health care to a diverse population on UNLV’s Maryland Parkway campus and, if indicated in the future, at the Las Vegas Medical District campus. This position also acts as a clinical supervisor of contracted and per diem physicians. As a full-time clinician in the UNLV Student Health Center (SHC) and Faculty and Staff Treatment (FAST) Center, the Senior Staff Physician acts as an effective healthcare team member on a multidisciplinary team and provides direct patient care, in person or via telehealth, including assessment, diagnosis, initiation of treatment, evaluation of responses to treatments, referral to appropriate specialists and higher levels of care when indicated, and accurate and timely documentation of all findings concerning the patient in the electronic health record (EHR). The Senior Staff Physician acknowledges the unique characteristics of each patient and provides respectful, culturally competent, and professional clinical services. This Senior Staff Physician position supports the health, mental health and wellbeing of UNLV students and employees, thereby allowing them to succeed in their academic pursuits and/or employment responsibilities. The UNLV Student Health Center and Faculty and Staff Treatment (FAST) Center are nationally accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and are part of the Student Wellness Unit at UNLV within the Division of Student Affairs. The Student Wellness Unit also includes Student Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), as well as the UNLV Care Center, Disability Resource Center, Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities, Military and Veterans Services Center, and the Wellness Promotion department.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
  • Successful completion of a family medicine residency.
  • Current Nevada M.D./D.O license in good standing.
  • National board certification as a family medicine physician.
  • At least three years of experience as a family medicine physician, including performing in-office surgical procedures.
  • At least one year of experience supervising physicians and/or medical residents.
  • Pass a background screening.
  • Compliance with Employee Exposure to Communicable Disease (Prevention of) Policy.

Nice To Haves

  • One year or more precepting, teaching or training medical students is preferred.
  • One year or more of clinical experience in college health or community health setting is preferred.
