About The Position

As a Senior Staff Engineer at Capital One, you will be a technical expert helping define the future of banking in the cloud. You will devise practical, reusable solutions to complex problems, drive innovation and business outcomes, promote engineering excellence, mentor engineers, and share expertise across the organization. The role calls for substantial hands-on technical contribution alongside mentoring, technical leadership, and collaboration across organizational boundaries. The Global Payment Network (GPN) Technology organization designs, builds, and operates mission-critical systems and infrastructure for domestic and international money movement. Its distributed ecosystem is high-volume, low-latency, resilient, secure, performant, accurate, and nimble. Engineers in GPN shape solutions to complex problems at massive scale, build core network products, simplify participant integration, and deliver new features. The team uses automation and AI-native engineering to develop real-time insights and capabilities in transaction processing, fraud mitigation, and risk mitigation. This position may be performed remotely. It is responsible for technical vision and design quality, modernization of monolithic systems into microservices and event-driven platforms, and collaboration on long-term platform strategy and API standards. The engineer will lead cross-divisional work, advise on system characteristics such as performance, scalability, and operability, and serve as a role model, mentor, and technical resource for engineering and product colleagues. The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries are $286,200–$326,700 for remote work, regardless of location, and $314,800–$359,300 in McLean, Virginia.
