Senior Staff Full-stack Engineer - Global Payment Network (Remote - Eligible)
About The Position
As a Senior Staff Engineer at Capital One, you will help define the future of banking in the cloud as a technical expert who devises practical, reusable solutions to complex problems. You will drive innovation and business outcomes through strong technology solutions, promote engineering excellence and inclusion, mentor engineers, and help recruit and develop technical talent. You will lead through hands-on technical contribution and act as a trusted advisor for key technologies, platforms, and capability domains, sharing knowledge through clear communications, code samples, blog posts, and other materials. The Global Payment Network (GPN) Technology organization designs, builds, and operates mission-critical systems and infrastructure for complex domestic and international money movement. Its distributed ecosystem is high-volume, low-latency, resilient, secure, performant, accurate, and nimble. In this role, you will shape solutions to complex problems at scale across core network products, participant integration, and new features. The work includes automation and AI-native engineering, transaction processing, and fraud and risk mitigation. Capital One is open to hiring a remote employee for this opportunity.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field, such as Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, or Engineering.
- At least 9 years of experience in software engineering and solution architecture.
- At least 9 years of experience in enterprise architecture and design patterns.
- At least 9 years of experience in cloud computing, such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
- At least 9 years of experience in data architecture.
Nice To Haves
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering.
- 12+ years of experience in software engineering and solution architecture, enterprise architecture and design patterns, cloud computing, and data architecture.
- 12+ years of experience with web technologies, including JavaScript, TypeScript, and SPA frameworks.
- Experience designing and building distributed HPC and ML systems.
- 12+ years of professional coding experience in commonly used languages such as Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C#, or Scala.
- 10+ years of experience with databases and database management systems.
- 12+ years of professional experience across the full system development lifecycle, from conception through architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
- 10+ years of experience with cloud-based productivity tools or virtualization technologies.
- 12+ years of experience with networking protocols and integration with third-party distributed systems.
- 7+ years of experience mentoring senior engineers and driving professional development within technical teams.
- 3+ years of experience leading cross-domain architectural reviews or establishing coding and design standards.
- Expertise in the strategic application of agentic AI coding tools to solve systemic development challenges.

- Collaborate with senior engineering and architecture leaders to define long-term platform strategy and API standards.
- Balance hands-on technical contribution and innovation with mentoring and developing peers and junior engineers.
- Lead cross-divisional projects that promote technology best practices and enhancements.
- Create clear communications, code samples, blog posts, and other materials to share technical knowledge internally and externally.
