Senior Staff Frontend Engineer

OpenLoop Health•Des Moines, IA

About The Position

OpenLoop provides clinical and operational infrastructure that digital-health brands, clinics, and employers use to run virtual care across all 50 states. Its unified client platform connects clients to services including clinicians, intake, scheduling, charting, pharmacy and fulfillment, payments, and licensing, through options ranging from a no-code storefront to a Partner API. The Senior Staff Frontend Engineer serves as the technical architect of OpenLoop’s unified web platform. The role defines how the front end is structured, packaged, and distributed across multiple services and teams; owns platform performance and its measurement; and leads the migration of existing applications without disrupting clients. The engineer writes production code, establishes patterns and standards for other engineers, and keeps patient, clinician, and client experience central to platform decisions. This is an architecture-focused role rather than a pixel-pushing role. The position works closely with UX designers, product partners, and engineering teams to deliver accessible, responsive experiences across desktop and mobile browsers. It also includes reviewing code, mentoring full-stack engineers working on the front end, helping design the front-end interview process, and serving as a technical interviewer. OpenLoop describes a relatively flat organizational structure in which employees are encouraged to contribute ideas and take action. Its stated values include Autonomy, Competence, and Belonging, as well as Disciplined Intensity, Do No Harm, Step In, Stay In, Purposeful Speed, and Clarity Over Comfort.

Requirements

  • Experience building or scaling a large enterprise front end composed of many services and built by many teams.
  • A demonstrated track record of improving UI performance, including the ability to explain diagnosed problems, measurement methods, and results.
  • Strong problem-solving and system-level thinking, with the ability to reason about the platform as a whole.
  • Care for the end-user experience and a habit of considering the customer’s or patient’s point of view.
  • Clear communication with engineers, designers, and product partners, including the ability to explain architectural tradeoffs to non-front-end specialists.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with micro-frontend architectures or module federation.

Responsibilities

  • Design the structure of a unified web platform built on multiple backend services and by multiple teams, including module boundaries, routing, and shared state.
  • Define how teams can ship independently without interfering with one another.
  • Own strategies for shared libraries, component systems, and package distribution.
  • Set load-time and bundle budgets, diagnose and address performance issues, and implement real-user monitoring across pages.
  • Lead the migration of existing web applications into the unified platform using a deliberate sequence and compatibility windows to avoid disruption to clients and users.
  • Collaborate with UX designers and product partners to turn designs into accessible, responsive experiences for desktop and mobile browsers.
