Senior Staff Applications Engineer

Archer•San Jose, CA
•$210,000 - $255,000

About The Position

Archer’s Product Lifecycle Engineering (PLE) team builds and runs the engineering systems used to define Archer products. The role owns one or more internally developed engineering applications that serve as systems of record for critical, configuration-controlled technical data across product releases. The engineer develops the application, operates it as a production service, and supports engineering teams across several disciplines. The position covers the full software development and operational lifecycle, including application development, integrations, data import and export, CI/CD, configuration control, production administration, issue resolution, and user support. It also partners with Systems Engineering to make traceable tool updates for Interface Control Document (ICD) changes, and creates documentation, training, release notes, and operational runbooks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience, including production-grade C#/.NET (ASP.NET Core) development.
  • Experience with Blazor or a comparable modern component-based web UI framework.
  • Comfort working in a layered/Domain-Driven Design architecture and evolving a schema-driven domain model.
  • Solid Python scripting for data import, processing, and automation.
  • Hands-on experience with Docker-based build and deployment.
  • Deep Git proficiency, including branching, merging, tagging, protected branches, pull-request and release workflows (Bitbucket).
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting CI/CD pipelines using Bitbucket Pipelines and/or TeamCity.
  • Ability to independently own a mission-critical internal application from feature development through production operations, and communicate clearly with a technical engineering user base.
  • Hands-on experience using Claude Code or comparable AI coding agents to generate, refactor, test, and document production code.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of avionics data buses (ARINC 429, ARINC 664/AFDX, ARINC 717, CAN, RS-422, analog, discrete) and Interface Control Document concepts.
  • Aerospace or regulated-industry experience, including configuration management and change-control discipline.
  • Experience with MBSE/SysML tooling (Cameo) and model-based interface definitions.
  • JSON/structured schema design and validation for interface data.
  • Experience building plugin/extension architectures or application authentication/SSO integration.
  • Comfort with AI-assisted development workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and extend C#/.NET (ASP.NET Core) Blazor web applications using a layered Domain/Application/Infrastructure architecture and schema-driven data model.
  • Own the full development lifecycle, including feature development, bug fixes, code review, testing, release, and technical documentation.
  • Build and maintain data importers and exporters, including SysML (Cameo) model ingestion, CAN DBC import, and ICD report generation.
  • Administer applications as production services, including deployment, monitoring, backups, upgrades, user access, and protected-branch policies.
  • Own the CI/CD pipeline and Git-based configuration control model, including branching, tagging, merges, and release/hotfix workflows.
  • Create and maintain integrations with enterprise tools such as Jira, Cameo, and Polarion; coordinate ICD data flow from the MBSE model to downstream avionics software, hardware, and integration test consumers.
  • Triage and resolve user-reported issues and data-integrity problems, with heightened availability around ICD release and hotfix windows.
  • Partner with Systems Engineering to translate ICD change requests into correct, traceable tool updates.
  • Produce user documentation, release notes, training, and operational runbooks for the user community.
