SUMMARY OF THE JOB: The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing monthly financial results for management and the Bank’s Board of Directors. This includes supporting the development and enhancement of financial reporting systems. This role also performs daily reconciliations of correspondent banking accounts, completes monthly account reconciliations, and prepares general ledger journal entries.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting
  • Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, preferably within financial services or other regulated industry
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
  • Strong technical and systems skills including the ability to build and maintain financial reports
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines, particularly in a month-end close environment
  • Demonstrated advanced capability in Microsoft Excel and proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications
  • High level of attention to detail with effective written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly financial statements based on data compiled from core systems and other internal sources
  • Maintain and update financial reporting files, supporting schedules and reporting templates to ensure accuracy and consistency
  • Support the month-end close by ensuring timely data collection, validation and reporting
  • Play a key role in the development and enhancement of financial reporting systems, including building and updating reporting structures and participating in system implementation, testing and validation
  • Perform daily reconciliation of the Bank’s correspondent accounts. Work with internal partners and external sources to identify, research and resolve outstanding items timely
  • Prepare and submit adjustment entries to correspondent banks to facilitate the timely resolution of outstanding items
  • Prepare monthly general ledger account reconciliations, ensuring balances are properly supported and reconciling items are promptly identified and resolved
  • Record general ledger entries as needed, ensuring accuracy and appropriate supporting documentation
  • Provide back-up support for daily reconciliation of the Bank’s Federal Reserve Account
  • Support the Accounting Manager with projects, process improvements and other assigned initiatives, as needed
