About The Position

The Staff Accountant supports the financial operations of The Tech Interactive by maintaining accurate accounting records, assisting with financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards. This exempt role is part of the Finance team and reports to the Controller.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant accounting experience
  • Working knowledge of GAAP
  • Experience with accounting software
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, etc.)
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Familiarity with fund accounting and restricted fund tracking

Nice To Haves

  • nonprofit experience preferred
  • familiarity with nonprofit accounting standards strongly preferred
  • Quickbooks Online experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepare journal entries, including accruals, allocations, and adjustments per Controller direction
  • Maintain the general ledger for assigned accounts and ensure accuracy of financial data
  • Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis
  • Review and correct posted data from various accounting software integrations
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Support budget-to-actual variance analysis and reporting
  • Prepare schedules and documentation for internal and external reporting needs
  • Assist with grant reporting of financial data to funders as needed
  • Record and reconcile contributed revenue, including donations, grants, and pledges
  • Track restricted and unrestricted funds in accordance with donor intent and accounting standards
  • Assist development staff with financial tracking and reporting of contributed revenue
  • Process invoices and ensure timely vendor payments
  • Monitor accounts receivable, including program revenue and receivables from grants or pledges
  • Maintain supporting documentation for all transactions
  • Assist with annual audit preparation, including schedules and supporting documentation
  • Assist Controller with compliance with GAAP and nonprofit-specific accounting guidance (e.g., net asset classifications)
  • Support preparation of Form 990 and other regulatory filings
  • Maintain and follow internal controls and accounting policies
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies
  • Complete additional related tasks or duties as assigned by the supervisor/manager.
