About The Position

The mission of the Womxn's Center for Success is to advance gender equity by raising community consciousness, fostering personal growth, implementing social justice initiatives, and increasing access to resources that support student success. We do this through programming and community building, educational workshops and opportunities, and engagement, advisement, and supervision of students. Under the direction of the Director of the Womxn’s Center for Success, the Senior Specialist, Womxn’s Center for Success is responsible for providing educational, inclusive, and student development-centered programs, initiatives, and involvement opportunities (through employment, internships, and/or service) that advance gender equity at UCI. The Senior Specialist leads the coordination and management of reproductive justice, womxn’s health and wellbeing, and menstruation equity programs. Program coordination includes all aspects of the program development and implementation cycle, including planning, budget projection and tracking, logistics, task delegation, and assessment. Management of this area includes partnering with campus and community partners to provide equitable resources, remove barriers and expand accessibility, understand community needs, and increase awareness. The Senior Specialist builds and sustains partnerships across the UCI campus community, including academic departments, student affairs units, and campus resource centers, to advance the development, enrichment, inclusion, and retention of womxn and female students across all disciplines. This work includes identifying opportunities for collaboration, co-developing programs and initiatives with campus partners, and representing the Center in cross-divisional efforts that support gender equality.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
  • Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance.
  • Abilities in project management, problem identification and reasoning skills.
  • Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of social justice frameworks and gender equity principles, and ability to apply them to program development and student advising.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs or initiatives for a student population.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising, training, and evaluating student staff, interns, or volunteers.
  • Skill in program organization, budget preparation and tracking, publicity and marketing, and evaluation.
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with campus and community stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree required.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment.
  • Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs / Student Life specialization.
  • Experience working in a university or college resource center focused on gender equity, women's issues, or identity-based community support services.
  • Experience developing and delivering training or curriculum, such as instructing a course or facilitating a workshop series.
  • Understanding of university, college, or city/county/state administrative organizations, policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Demonstrated understanding of intersectionality of gender with race, ethnicity, culture, disability, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, religion/spirituality, and other social identity categories.
  • Master's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training preferred.
  • 4 or more years of experience providing programs, services, and/or supervision related to gender equity, reproductive justice, or a related student or community services area
