About The Position

Capital Power is seeking a Senior Specialist, Commercial Reporting to support the U.S. flex-gen fleet in the PJM market. This role involves preparing financial reports, analyzing trends, and providing strategic advice to inform business decisions. The position requires strong knowledge of power plant operations, energy markets, and advanced analytical and accounting skills. Key responsibilities include developing valuation models, evaluating contracts, leading budgets and forecasts, and supporting asset management and commercial opportunities. This is a permanent, full-time position.

Requirements

  • Completed degree in finance, accounting, economics, engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in finance with accounting, financial and analytical roles, preferably in the deregulated electricity or other related industry.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, and ability to handle a dynamic and full workload.
  • Ability to work effectively with non-financial individuals.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to represent the company with external parties.
  • Ability to work with multiple internal and external stakeholders and foster positive relationships on multi-disciplinary issues.
  • Ability to take initiative, manage ambiguity and conflict, and effectively exercise influence.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States of America.

Nice To Haves

  • A professional accounting designation or equivalent is an asset.
  • A master’s degree is an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in the power industry and/or PJM knowledge is preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Power BI, Oracle, and/or Hyperion is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Understanding plant operating characteristics and providing strategic advice as a financial expert on U.S. flex-gen facilities.
  • Leading the development of the long-term plan, annual budget, and quarterly forecasts for assigned facilities.
  • Analyzing and reporting on monthly, quarterly, and annual variances, focusing on business drivers and trends.
  • Providing comprehensive financial insights and updates to drive business success and optimize asset value.
  • Offering input and recommendations for strategic decisions, including financial data for corporate acquisitions and divestitures.
  • Providing guidance and drafting sections of strategic asset management plans.
  • Building and maintaining collaborative relationships with internal subject matter experts and stakeholders.
  • Delivering analytical responses and data to support business partners in Commercial Management, Operations, and other functional areas.
  • Preparing financial models and written summaries for project initiatives, budget presentations, and commercial activities.
  • Ensuring well-developed procedures and effective internal controls, and that analysis reflects key trends, assumptions, and drivers.
  • Identifying and executing process improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency and automate tasks.
  • Staying updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in financial reporting.
