About The Position

The Senior Spacecraft Embedded Software Engineer is part of Varda’s Flight Software team and determines how spacecraft behave and operate in orbit, developing reliable software to make that happen. The role covers all phases of development, from requirements capture through testing and flight operational support. The engineer develops firmware for spacecraft, satellite buses, and reentry capsules, and builds structured embedded software in C++ for bare-metal, RTOS, or Linux-based systems. The position is on-site in El Segundo, California.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, math, physics, engineering, or equivalent technical experience in safety-critical software.
At least 5 years of experience developing spacecraft or similar safety-critical software.
Experience developing and testing real-time embedded hardware/software systems.
Experience developing in C++ and a strong understanding of language concepts.

Nice To Haves

Experience with safety-critical software, especially for aerospace applications.
Experience with additional programming languages such as Python or Rust.
Strong understanding of computer architecture, operating systems, data structures, and computer networking.

Responsibilities

Develop reliable firmware that controls the spacecraft, satellite bus, and reentry capsule throughout the mission.
Own software development from design through testing and integration.
Scope projects, capture requirements, and conduct initial design trades for open-ended problems.
Write structured C++ software for embedded processors using bare-metal, RTOS, or Linux-based approaches.
Build highly reliable and available software systems.
Ensure system quality and performance through software testing, verification, and validation (V&V).
