About The Position

Draper’s Digital Engineering and Enabling Technologies Division is seeking a Senior Space Systems Design Engineer to apply systems thinking and advanced methodologies to a new space-based application. The role is suited to candidates with broad multidisciplinary interests in tradespace exploration, multidisciplinary analysis and optimization, model-based engineering, modeling and simulation, software development and integration, and advanced algorithms. The engineer will work as part of an interdisciplinary team, becoming knowledgeable in relevant problem domains and identifying, developing, or integrating modeling and analysis techniques and multi-domain models. The role involves presenting results that support system-level analysis, performance trade-offs, and decision-making, and communicating technical concepts effectively with customers, engineers, managers, and other stakeholders. Applicants selected for this position must obtain and maintain a US government security clearance. Consistent on-site availability is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, or another relevant engineering field.
  • 5–7 years of experience in systems analysis or a related area.
  • Experience using MBSE tools such as SysML and knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Experience integrating descriptive modeling tools with other simulation tools.
  • Excellent mathematical skills and a thorough understanding of engineering theories and procedures.
  • Ability to collaborate within a diverse, multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, time-management, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of multiple problem domains and ability to become knowledgeable in new domains quickly.
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to evolving priorities.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance.
  • Ability to provide consistent on-site support.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience with one or more of MATLAB/Simulink, Python, and MagicDraw.
  • Experience with methodologies for analysis of alternatives under uncertainty.
  • Familiarity with space missions operating in LEO, MEO, or GEO.
  • Familiarity with GNC concepts and space sensors.
  • Knowledge of and interest in Systems Engineering, Modeling and Simulation, Trade Space Exploration (TSE), Machine Learning, and Data Engineering.
  • Experience in data visualization and story boarding.
  • Experience with SysML and implementing tools such as MagicDraw.
  • Experience integrating descriptive modeling tools with other simulation tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis approaches for particular problems and independently execute assignments.
  • Independently execute systems engineering lifecycle assignments, including concept and architecture design, integration, testing, and operation.
  • Drive solutions to complex problems with limited direction; contribute to task planning and test development, propose ways forward, and adapt to changes in program requirements.
  • Lead small teams of fewer than five people, align the team with program goals, and build trust.
  • Provide insight and suggest design modifications based on analysis outcomes, applying analysis techniques across a range of technical challenges.
  • Identify program- and system-level technical risks and develop and execute mitigation strategies.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers and provide constructive feedback.
  • Work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment with stakeholders and external partners.
  • Contribute to translating requirements into technical and architectural decisions.
  • Identify and develop relevant modeling and analysis techniques, and develop or integrate multi-domain qualitative models.
  • Present results that support system-level analysis, performance trade-offs, and decision-making.
  • Communicate technical concepts effectively with customers, engineers, managers, and other stakeholders.

Benefits

  • Workplace flexibility programs
  • Employee clubs, including photography and yoga
  • Health and finance workshops
  • Off-site social events
  • Discounts to local museums and cultural activities
