About The Position

The Senior Solutions Systems Engineer is a recognized technical expert responsible for defining, governing, and advancing integrated railroad technology solutions across Digital Intelligence product portfolios. The role provides enterprise-level systems engineering leadership by establishing solution architectures, technical standards, integration strategies, and technology roadmaps that support current and future business objectives. Working across engineering, product management, commercial, operations, and customer organizations, the position advances scalable, reliable, and interoperable solutions while influencing engineering practices, technical direction, and long-term innovation strategies.

The role leads architecture and systems engineering activities for large-scale, multi-product solutions; develops solution technology roadmaps and multi-generational technology plans; and serves as a principal systems engineering advisor for complex customer opportunities and strategic initiatives. It also provides expert leadership during solution integration, validation, field deployment, and performance improvement, and mentors senior engineers and technical leaders across the organization.

The position is part of Wabtec, a global provider of equipment, systems, digital solutions, and services for freight and transit rail and other transportation and industrial sectors. The role is regular employment. Relocation assistance may be provided if eligibility requirements are met. The salary range is $120,600–$171,700, with the actual offer subject to factors including experience, education, skills, business needs, market demands, and work location. Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
• 12 or more years of progressive experience in systems engineering, solution architecture, integration engineering, or complex technology development environments.
• Demonstrated expertise leading architecture and systems engineering activities for large-scale, multi-product solutions.
• Deep knowledge of systems engineering principles, requirements management, architecture development, verification, validation, and lifecycle management.
• Experience establishing solution-level standards, methodologies, and engineering best practices.
• Strong understanding of software, hardware, communications, cloud, infrastructure, and operational technology integration.
• Advanced experience with requirements management and traceability tools such as IBM DOORS, DOORS Next Generation, or equivalent platforms.
• Proven ability to influence strategic technical decisions across multiple organizations without direct authority.
• Demonstrated success leading resolution of complex technical, operational, and integration challenges with significant business impact.
• Experience mentoring senior engineers and providing technical leadership across geographically dispersed teams.
• Excellent executive-level communication, stakeholder management, and technical presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Define and govern enterprise-level solution architectures supporting multiple customer programs and product platforms.
• Lead development and maintenance of solution technology roadmaps and multi-generational technology plans.
• Establish solution-level requirements, interface strategies, architecture standards, and engineering governance processes.
• Serve as the principal systems engineering advisor for complex customer opportunities, proposals, and strategic initiatives.
• Lead technical evaluation of customer requirements, RFIs, and RFPs and guide development of solution strategies.
• Drive cross-functional alignment among systems, software, hardware, integration, product management, and commercial teams.
• Develop and promote systems engineering methodologies, standards, and best practices across the Digital Electronics organization.
• Lead identification, assessment, and mitigation of strategic technical, architectural, and integration risks.
• Influence future product and platform development by translating customer, market, and operational needs into technical direction.
• Provide expert leadership during solution integration, validation, field deployment, and performance improvement activities.
• Mentor senior engineers and technical leaders while fostering systems engineering capability across the organization.
• Represent systems engineering expertise in executive reviews, strategic planning activities, customer engagements, and technology investment discussions.
• Perform other duties outside the function or trade as requested; adequate training will be provided if necessary.
