Join the PCS Software Released Product Engineering (RPE) leadership team, where our charter is to ensure continuity across the CRM instrument and software ecosystem—including legacy Device Managers, patient monitors, mobile applications, and instrument accessories. We are seeking a highly motivated and accountable software leader who is passionate about sustaining critical products that support clinicians and improve patients’ quality of life. In this role, you will lead the patient bedside monitor software organization. As a Senior Manager, you will own multi-year roadmaps of software engineering activities and releases to sustain product functionality, quality, and regulatory compliance across two to three patient bedside monitor platforms. With over 2.5 million monitors actively used worldwide, this role requires both strategic leadership and the ability to operate effectively in a highly dynamic, reactive environment—demonstrating technical depth, agility, and resilience. You will be responsible for overall product quality, team staffing, and budget management. You will engage across all phases of the software development lifecycle in a fast-paced, collaborative, and impactful environment. This includes responsibility for building and maintaining a team that consistently delivers embedded software functional excellence. The Functional Manager is ultimately accountable for their teams’ performance and execution. In general, the following responsibilities apply for the Senior Software Engineering Manager role. This includes, but is not limited to the following: Lead the RPE bedside monitor software organization, including Medtronic engineers, contractors, and software vendors. Own product capability and release roadmaps, with accountability for planning, execution, and delivery within business-aligned budgets. Ensure Tier 2 customer product support remains a top priority. Partner closely with PCS Product Management to prioritize backlogs and shape them into executable multi-year roadmaps and release plans. Directly manage a team of 5–8 engineers and technicians, including performance management, compensation planning, career development, and ongoing coaching and feedback. Provide indirect leadership across cross-functional teams, including project managers, engineers, and external software vendors, with a strong focus on embedded systems, software platforms, deployment, and monitoring solutions. Deliver large, complex programs and multiple parallel releases—from defining unmet needs through development, manufacturing updates, and global deployment. Typically oversee a minimum of two releases per year. Currently preparing a major multi-year modernization program involving OS kernel upgrades, redesigned software capabilities, new deployment mechanisms, and test automation frameworks. Develop and manage plans, schedules, and budgets; track progress; communicate status; and proactively escalate risks and issues. Drive initiatives addressing hardware/software technology advancements, component obsolescence, and product continuity, while ensuring compliance with software, cybersecurity, and regulatory standards. Collaborate across cross-functional engineering teams (Software, Hardware, Security, Systems, Human Factors, Reliability, Regulatory, Quality, and Operations). Typical program team size ranges from 12–20, including global Medtronic team members, contractors, and vendors. Build and foster a high-performing, inclusive, and quality-focused culture by coaching and motivating global team members. Lead technical problem-solving and resolution activities, including CAPA (Corrective & Preventive Action) investigations and actions. Champion continuous improvement by leveraging lessons learned and industry best practices to enhance quality, efficiency, and team effectiveness. Maintain strong, collaborative relationships with external cellular, software, and technology vendors to ensure alignment, quality delivery, and long-term partnership success. Engage regularly with PCS business leaders and RPE peers to ensure alignment on product roadmaps, capabilities, and execution strategies in support of evolving business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering, or math and minimum of 7 years of technical work experience OR advanced degree in science, technology, engineering, or math, with 5 years of technical experience and 5 years of demonstrated managerial experience
