About The Position

This role focuses on owning scoped feature or model delivery through collaborative engineering teams. The Senior Software Engineer will manage implementation, iteration, testing, and ongoing support for assigned services, APIs, user interfaces, or ML model components, operating with a product-driven mindset and aligning outcomes with broader platform, system, and domain objectives. The position involves driving the full software development lifecycle, including CI/CD deployments, automated testing, observability, monitoring, and maintenance. It also includes integrating AI agents and ML components, leveraging GenAI tools, and applying object-oriented programming principles. The role requires assisting in converting high-level designs into detailed designs, evaluating trade-offs, and designing scalable, secure, and maintainable software systems aligned with Walmart’s standards. Additionally, the engineer will engage stakeholders to identify and refine business or user problems, translate pain points into technical requirements, and define metrics for solution success. DevOps and program monitoring are key, ensuring adherence to project milestones and timelines. The role promotes a collaborative engineering mindset, contributes to innovation, and demonstrates technical ownership of deliverables.

Requirements

Coding in Java to develop stateless, distributed services designed to auto-scale for high traffic (10K+ TPS) while remaining cost-efficient and easy to operate and maintain
Spring and Spring Boot frameworks, including selecting appropriate libraries to deliver business-critical features, and designing RESTful APIs and service contracts with downstream systems
Managing distributed databases, designing schemas, and writing and optimizing complex queries
Implementing efficient storage and data-retrieval strategies for Cassandra and MySQL
Using Redis for caching to improve application performance
Driving end-to-end production deployments using DevOps tools including Docker and Kubernetes
Designing and implementing event-driven data applications using Apache Kafka, consuming and processing real-time events asynchronously to enable scalable and resilient system integrations
Utilizing JUnit to write and execute unit tests, achieving 100% test coverage
Identifying edge cases in functional requirements and enforcing correctness through thorough code reviews
Performing static code analysis using SonarQube
Collaborating with developers, product teams, architects, and quality assurance (QA) to develop, test and deliver business-critical features on time, including comprehensive software testing from unit to end-to-end (E2E) testing
Version control system Git to enable seamless and efficient software development

Master's degree or the equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Engineering (any) or related field plus 1 year of experience in software engineering or related area
Bachelor's degree or the equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Engineering (any) or related field plus 3 years of experience in software engineering or related area

Leverages GenAI tools such as GitHub Copilot to improve development velocity and innovation.
Applies object-oriented programming principles and documentation-based coding practices to ensure modularity, maintainability, and consistency.
Assists in converting high-level designs into detailed designs using mock screens, pseudo code, and functional logic.
Evaluates trade-offs and designs scalable, secure, and maintainable software systems aligned with Walmart’s standards.
Participates in design reviews and ensures the implementation of appropriate design patterns and principles.
Demonstrates continuous learning and supports peer growth through mentorship and knowledge sharing.
