Senior Software Engineer - Embedded Platform

NVIDIA•Santa Clara, CA
•$184,000 - $287,500

About The Position

NVIDIA is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer for its Embedded Platform team. The role supports development of Jetson, IGX, and DGX Spark product software systems, applying embedded platform, Linux real-time kernel, and software architecture expertise. The engineer will work with a worldwide development team to address the challenges of delivering platforms for AI at the edge. The position involves developing and shipping Linux-based embedded products through their full lifecycle, from hardware bring-up to production deployment. Work includes building and tuning real-time Linux kernels for deterministic workloads, enabling and validating I/O and sensor interfaces, and collaborating with robotics partners and internal hardware, safety, and middleware teams to turn customer use cases into platform features, reference configurations, and tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Eight or more years of demonstrated experience in Linux and sophisticated embedded systems development, with strong programming skills.
  • Ability to understand robotics, drone, or industrial automation platform hardware architecture and engage with hardware teams.
  • Hands-on experience shipping board support packages (BSPs) for robotics, drones, or industrial automation platforms.
  • Linux kernel internals skills, including device drivers, device tree, boot flow, and debugging with tracing tools.
  • Proven real-time Linux kernel development experience.
  • Strong technical skills and ability to work across complementary teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with an RTOS such as FreeRTOS or Zephyr.
  • Understanding of how middleware frameworks such as ROS2 affect platform determinism.
  • Experience building tools or frameworks that let customers configure and verify real-time behavior on deployed systems.
  • Familiarity with embedded microprocessor architectures such as ARM, the Linux kernel, and its subsystems.
  • Experience with developer kits for robotics, drones, or industrial automation platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Implement features that demonstrate Jetson- and IGX-based robotics, drone, or industrial automation platform capabilities, from board bring-up through production release.
  • Define, build, and tune real-time Linux kernels for deterministic workloads using GPU- and SoC-dependent accelerators.
  • Enable I/O and validate sensor interfaces used by robotics, drones, or industrial automation.
  • Work with robotics partners and internal hardware, safety, and middleware teams to translate customer use cases into platform features, reference configurations, and tools.
  • Contribute throughout the full product lifecycle, from hardware bring-up to production deployment.
  • Model GPU, sensor, and other accelerator-engine workloads related to robotics, drones, or industrial automation applications.
