About The Position

Tempus is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to advance its Genomics AI initiatives and help transform healthcare through AI-powered precision-medicine insights. The role involves analyzing and designing complex technical solutions, architecting robust systems, and mentoring emerging talent. The engineer will work across full-stack engineering, relational data systems, and algorithmic development, producing high-quality code and integrating Generative AI APIs and agentic workflows into user-facing applications and the broader product ecosystem.

The role operates within small, autonomous teams of developers, designers, scientists, and product managers. Engineers have direct ownership of solutions supporting cancer research and treatment, using an agile approach and modern architecture to deliver quality and scalable systems. The senior engineer is expected to provide technical leadership, make architectural decisions that balance business and technical needs, champion AI-assisted development, and collaborate across teams and with diverse stakeholders.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of advanced TypeScript/JavaScript development experience, with deep understanding of language features and optimization techniques.
• Extensive experience architecting and leading development with Node.js and NestJS.
• Expert-level React development, including designing and implementing complex component systems.
• Hands-on experience with GenAI coding tools and autonomous agents, such as Copilot, Cursor, or LLM APIs, for development acceleration, code refactoring, and test generation.
• Experience or strong working knowledge integrating LLM APIs and GenAI technologies into production applications.
• Advanced PostgreSQL skills, including query optimization, indexing strategies, and performance tuning.
• Proven expertise implementing Redis caching solutions for high-throughput systems.
• Demonstrated success designing and implementing distributed microservice architectures.
• Significant experience orchestrating infrastructure and applications on GCP, including CI/CD pipelines.
• Mastery of enterprise-level design patterns and their application in large-scale, mission-critical systems.
• At least 7 years of software development experience with a track record of technical leadership.
• Ability to make high-impact architectural decisions that balance business needs with technical considerations.
• Enthusiasm for championing AI-assisted development, driving adoption of agentic workflows, and mentoring teams in the use of AI tools.
• History of successfully delivering complex projects in fast-paced environments.
• Strong communication skills, including experience presenting technical solutions to diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to drive cross-team technical initiatives and resolve complex engineering challenges.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with search technologies such as Elasticsearch or OpenSearch.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Background in biotech, genomics, or precision medicine.
• Experience leading system migrations between cloud platforms, such as AWS to GCP.
