Senior Software Engineer, Database Integration & Observability

MongoDB•Boston, MA
•$126,000 - $248,000

About The Position

As a Senior Software Engineer on MongoDB’s Database Integration & Observability team, you will work on initiatives spanning ecosystem integrations, change data capture and streaming, and database observability. The team connects MongoDB with products such as Search, Vector Search, Atlas Stream Processing, and Atlas Data Federation; enhances Change Streams for real-time event tracking and data synchronization; and builds diagnostics, query shape statistics, logging systems, and process-level metrics. Core services are built primarily in modern C++, while testing and automation use JavaScript and Python. Prior professional C++ experience is not required if you have strong systems programming fundamentals. The role can be based at a MongoDB U.S. office or remotely in the United States. You will design, implement, and optimize integrations between the MongoDB query engine and its broader ecosystem; write clean, maintainable, high-performance code; lead projects from design through implementation and support; and collaborate with product and engineering peers on technical roadmaps and engineering solutions. Success expectations include shipping production code and solving problems with the team within three months, contributing to a large project within six months, and designing features, leading development work, and becoming a go-to expert on parts of the system within twelve months.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in software development and/or performance engineering.
  • Experience with large backend or compiled codebases, such as Rust or C/C++.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and software design architecture.
  • Strong interest in database internals, query engines, and distributed systems architecture.
  • Professional C++ experience is not required if the candidate has strong systems programming fundamentals.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with database internals, query engines, or distributed systems architecture, or an advanced degree such as an M.Sc. or Ph.D. in databases.
