About The Position

Eversource is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and implement new systems and features, as well as modify and maintain existing systems. This role involves engaging directly with IT management, development teams, technical delivery teams, and vendors to ensure the successful design, development, and delivery of technology-based solutions. The engineer will drive the software change and release management processes, assist with the overall maturity of the software development lifecycle, and work independently with minimal supervision. Ensuring that software deliverables comply with quality standards and are completed on time is crucial. This position is hybrid, requiring employees to work at least three days in the office, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with the third day set by the employee and supervisor. Applicants must be able to work up to five days in the office if needed and will not be offered immigration-related sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 to 8 years of related experience.
  • Advanced to expert knowledge of work area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.
  • Broad knowledge of project management.
  • Substantial knowledge of ES projects, programs, or systems in order to provide enhancements within job area.
  • Deep expertise in one or more areas.
  • Python Coding.
  • ArcGIS Pro.
  • ArcGIS Portal.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to work at least three days in the office, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
  • Ability to work up to five days in the office if needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Degree in a related field.
  • Knowledge of ESRI / ArcFM GIS.
  • Knowledge of ESRI UN.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement new systems and features.
  • Modify and maintain existing systems for adaptation to business and/or technology changes.

  • Provide measurable input to new products, processes, or standards in operational plans to implement business strategies.
  • Make moderate to significant improvements of processes, systems or products to enhance performance of work area.
  • Communicate with parties within and outside of own discipline.
  • May have responsibility for communicating with parties external to the organization (e.g., customers, vendors, etc.).
  • Contribute to software development processes.
  • Independently scope and implement larger user stories for their project/team.
  • Handle open-ended problems & ambiguity well.
  • Make well-reasoned software design decisions, identifying potential issues, tradeoffs, risks, and the appropriate level of abstraction.
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends and tools.
  • Stay current with industry trends and tools.
  • Navigate and make legacy code maintainable.
  • Elevate testing practices.
  • Contribute to the foundational good of their domain and engineering overall, defining patterns and canonical examples, plus paying down tech debt.

  • Ensure docs exist for all critical systems.
  • Engage outside expertise (training, consultants, professional network).
  • Add scripts to simplify developer onboarding.

  • Respond to emergency situations to meet customers’ needs as part of the role, including Emergency Restoration assignments.
