About The Position

This role is open to remote or hybrid candidates (East Coast preference), with hybrid being central to our New York, NY or Charlotte area offices. Must be able to work Eastern Standard Time hours. The purpose of the role is to design and deliver scalable, maintainable, and secure software systems that power Bankrate’s digital products. Senior Engineers operate with strong autonomy, combining technical expertise with leadership through influence. They contribute to architecture, mentor teammates, and ensure that software solutions are efficient, reliable, and aligned with business goals. Senior Engineers elevate technical quality and team performance. They connect engineering work to customer and business value, improving product scalability and stability. By modeling sound judgment, collaboration, and curiosity, they help teams deliver impactful solutions faster and with greater confidence.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages and deep expertise in at least one technology domain.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture principles and ability to apply them effectively within team scope.
  • Experience designing distributed systems, APIs, and cloud-based services.
  • Proven ability to make informed tradeoffs balancing cost, scalability, security, and maintainability.
  • Effective communicator, able to influence decisions and share complex concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Consistently delivers end-to-end solutions independently, from design through production.
  • Contributes to improving code quality, design consistency, and operational reliability across the team.
  • Models accountability, technical rigor, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Naturally curious and growth-minded - stays current with industry trends and applies relevant insights to the team’s work.
  • Deep fluency in our primarily TypeScript-based stack across API services and full-stack web applications.
  • Strong working knowledge of cloud infrastructure, infrastructure-as-code, and CI/CD automation.
  • Applies observability/APM, performance monitoring, and CDN/edge delivery practices to improve reliability and speed.
  • Evaluates and adopts AI tooling thoughtfully within their domain, helping shape team-level norms for where it adds the most value.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable, secure, and maintainable systems within a team or product area.
  • Contribute to the evolution of technical architecture and engineering patterns in alignment with organizational standards.
  • Build and optimize continuous delivery pipelines, improving deployment speed and reliability.
  • Partner with product and design peers to translate business objectives into actionable technical work.
  • Scope, estimate, and deliver medium-to-large initiatives with minimal oversight.
  • Collaborate across teams to resolve technical challenges, dependencies, and integration issues.
  • Mentor engineers through code reviews, pair programming, design discussions, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Contribute to the definition and improvement of team-level engineering practices and technical standards.
  • Demonstrate curiosity and continuous learning — evaluating tools, techniques, and technologies that could improve team and business outcomes.
