About The Position

Jorie AI is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and deliver software for healthcare and other regulated industries, spanning automation, web applications, and platform services. The role turns loosely defined client needs into working, production-ready solutions, which may include automation workflows, backend services, web applications, or customer deployments. The engineer sets technical direction, makes architecture decisions, mentors team members, works directly with clients, operations teams, and subject-matter experts, and owns work from initial discussions through production support. The position involves technical leadership across backend, web, and automation work; system design and integrations between legacy systems and modern platforms; deployment and operations ownership; client communication and project estimation; and introducing AI/ML or LLM tools where they provide value. The role also owns security and compliance practices for sensitive data, documentation, incident response, and mentoring and hiring activities. This is a remote position limited to candidates in the United States, excluding New York, California, and Washington state. The stated schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Central Time, with flexible hours potentially required based on business needs. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The employer does not offer visa sponsorship and does not accept contractors, C2C arrangements, or recruiting agencies.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of professional software development experience.
  • Expert proficiency in Python, including production-grade design, testing, and performance tuning.
  • Proven ability to take loosely defined requirements through to working production solutions.
  • Experience designing and building backend services and APIs.
  • Strong SQL skills, including schema design, migrations, query performance, and concurrency.
  • Experience owning production systems, including deployment, monitoring, incident response, and root-cause analysis.
  • Experience with CI/CD and containerized deployment, such as Docker.
  • Experience integrating with third-party systems and APIs.
  • Direct client- or stakeholder-facing experience, including explaining technical decisions to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical work across a team.
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA or similar data privacy requirements and secure handling of sensitive data.
  • Proficiency with Git, including branching strategies and code review practices.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship is offered.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with FastAPI, Flask, Django, or similar frameworks.
  • Experience with React and TypeScript.
  • Production experience with Selenium, Playwright, or other browser automation.
  • Experience with OpenCV, OCR, or image processing.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Helm, or OpenShift.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure or another cloud platform.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL or SQL Server.
  • Experience with authentication and identity technologies such as OIDC, SAML, or Keycloak.
  • Experience with task queues, distributed processing, or managing a fleet of workers.
  • Experience with healthcare revenue cycle management workflows, healthcare data standards such as X12 EDI or HL7, or EHR integrations.
  • Experience in regulated or federal environments, such as HITRUST, FedRAMP, or Section 508/WCAG.
  • Experience bringing AI/ML or LLM tools into production.
  • Experience with logging, alerting, and observability tools.
  • PowerShell scripting and Windows environment experience.

Responsibilities

  • Turn incomplete client requirements into clear scope, designs, and delivered production software; identify gaps and edge cases and explain options and tradeoffs.
  • Set technical direction and engineering standards across automation, backend, and web development.
  • Design services, automation, and data flows that bridge legacy systems and modern platforms, documenting architectural tradeoffs.
  • Design and build typed, tested, extensible Python services and APIs, including with frameworks such as FastAPI.
  • Build or guide web applications and internal tools, partnering with front-end engineers on API contracts and user workflows.
  • Lead browser, desktop, and computer-vision automation designs that can withstand application changes.
  • Own integrations with third-party systems, APIs, and client interfaces, including data mapping and error handling.
  • Design database schemas, migrations, and queries for correctness and performance as data volume grows.
  • Design systems for failure, including retries, partial-work recovery, and safe concurrent processing.
  • Own system build, deployment, and operations across CI/CD, containers, and cloud or customer-hosted environments; lead incident response and root-cause analysis.
  • Serve as a technical contact for client IT and business teams and explain constraints and tradeoffs in plain language.
  • Assess feasibility of new work, break work into deliverable phases, and estimate effort.
  • Evaluate AI/ML and LLM tools and lead their introduction into production when appropriate.
  • Own secure credential handling, access control, logging, and audit practices aligned with HIPAA and HITRUST.
  • Write design, deployment, and operations documentation that others can follow independently.
