Senior Software Engineer, Web Platform
About The Position
The Web Platform team develops the Shreddit platform, the foundation of reddit.com. The team focuses on platform-wide architecture, performance optimization, operational health, and improving the web developer experience for one of the internet’s most trafficked sites. This role turns ambiguous platform problems into clear designs and delivers high-quality, observable, well-tested solutions used by other teams. The engineer will drive initiatives to optimize Shreddit’s global performance, evolve HTML rendering, and improve web infrastructure resiliency and scale. The role also advances developer experience through AI tooling, automated workflows, and streamlined CI/CD pipelines. It involves designing and evolving platform architecture, performance, and developer tooling for Reddit users worldwide; leading cross-service initiatives; and supporting engineering quality, standards, and mentorship. The position is remote friendly within Reddit’s flexible-first workforce.
Requirements
- Strong proficiency with modern web technologies, including JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and Next.js.
- A proven track record translating complex problems into performant, scalable, safe, responsive, production-grade applications.
- Experience tracing, profiling, and tuning performance of network calls, rendering, or data access paths, and monitoring and reporting operational health.
- Experience implementing AI workflows and tooling to support and accelerate high-quality web development, optimization, and debugging.
- Demonstrated experience designing, building, and maintaining robust APIs using protocols such as REST, GraphQL, gRPC, HTTP, or Thrift basics.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Responsibilities
- Design and evolve the Shreddit web platform’s architecture, performance, and developer tooling.
- Lead end-to-end delivery of complex, cross-service initiatives involving asset delivery, HTML processing, observability, and reliability for core web experiences.
- Maintain high quality while moving quickly through thorough code reviews, detailed design document evaluations, and constructive feedback on product specifications and UI mocks.
- Help establish developer workflows and champion engineering best practices.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and promote technical excellence across the team.
- Improve global performance, HTML rendering, web infrastructure resiliency and scale, and developer experience through AI tooling, automated workflows, and streamlined CI/CD pipelines.
