About The Position

Apple’s Strategic Data Solutions (SDS) team optimizes high-impact business processes and mitigates fraud, waste, and abuse while supporting customers and internal partners. The SDS software engineering team builds large-scale systems for supply chain and fulfillment optimization, working closely with machine learning engineers and business teams. The Fulfillment team develops systems that automate and optimize Apple’s order fulfillment and supply chain operations to improve customer experience and deliver cost, labor, and carbon savings.

As a Software Engineer on the SDS team, you will work with machine learning engineers and other software engineers to lead the design and implementation of systems and tools that affect customers and company revenue. The role involves production software development, system architecture, infrastructure collaboration, process improvement, analytical software development, and release engineering.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Mastery of Python, Java, Scala, C++, or an equivalent language.
• At least 4 years of experience in software engineering or data science.
• Experience building data science or data analysis tools on Hadoop or cloud-based systems.
• Some experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or cloud platform deployment.
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures and durable workflow orchestration frameworks such as Temporal for coordinating complex, long-running processes.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including schema design, query performance, and migrations.
• Demonstrated understanding of the full software development lifecycle, including design, testing, CI/CD, release, monitoring, and production support.
• Experience designing, building, and scaling high-throughput distributed systems in production.
• Excellent problem-solving, critical-thinking, and communication skills.
• Solid grasp of computer science fundamentals, including data structures and algorithms.
• Ability to evaluate and apply new technologies quickly.
• Self-motivated, proactive, and solution-oriented.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement production software to optimize and automate business processes.
• Design system architecture with a focus on durability, reliability, concurrency, and performance under peak loads such as product launches.
• Work with external infrastructure teams to drive development of infrastructure needs.
• Identify opportunities to improve automation and tools.
• Develop and implement process improvements that increase efficiency and stability in fulfillment and supply chain processes.
• Lead the team in increasing the maturity and skill of analytical software development.
• Manage release engineering, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, safe rollouts with feature flags, database schema migrations, and observability tooling.
