About The Position

NOETIK is a frontier therapeutics company using AI and multimodal oncology data to connect therapeutic targets with patient subpopulations and predict clinical efficacy. The Software Engineer, Lab Ops & Automation will build and maintain software that supports laboratory operations and the workflows used to generate scientific datasets. The role works closely with laboratory scientists, operators, engineers, and data scientists in an interdisciplinary environment, identifying operational needs and turning them into efficient, reliable, scalable software. The organization operates as a hybrid team, with its primary lab and office in South San Francisco and regular in-person collaboration events.

Requirements

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience building production software used and relied upon by others.
  • Experience building full-stack applications, backend services, workflow systems, or operational tooling.
  • Proficiency in one or more relevant programming languages, particularly TypeScript and Python, and comfort working across different parts of a software system.
  • Experience with databases, APIs, and integrations between multiple software systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, including investigating issues across applications, infrastructure, external systems, and operational workflows.
  • A proactive approach to automation and the ability to turn repetitive or fragile processes into reliable software systems.
  • Comfort working directly with non-engineering users to understand their work, translate operational needs into software, and iterate based on feedback.
  • Comfort using AI coding tools and agents as part of software development while maintaining correctness, maintainability, and understanding of the systems being built.
  • Ability to learn quickly and work effectively in a fast-moving, interdisciplinary environment.
  • Collaborative, low-ego approach focused on solving problems as a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building software for laboratory, scientific, manufacturing, industrial automation, or other operational environments where software interacts with real-world processes.
  • Experience with laboratory instruments, vendor APIs or SDKs, scientific data systems, or hardware-connected software.
  • Experience with React, TypeScript, Python, PostgreSQL, AWS, or Vercel.
  • Experience building workflow orchestration, tracking, observability, or quality-control systems.
  • Experience in biotech, pharma, life sciences, or another environment involving complex scientific or operational workflows.
  • Ability or willingness to spend time working alongside the laboratory team in South San Francisco.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and evolve software systems that support laboratory operations and scientific data-generating workflows.

  • Work with laboratory scientists and operators to understand workflows, identify bottlenecks and repetitive manual processes, and improve them through software.
  • Integrate laboratory instruments, vendor software, APIs, and data systems to automate the flow of data and metadata through the lab.
  • Build internal tools using technologies such as TypeScript, React, and Python to help laboratory teams manage, monitor, and troubleshoot workflows.
  • Own software supporting critical lab operations and investigate and resolve issues when software or integrations impede experimental workflows.
  • Collaborate with engineers and data scientists on downstream data-processing pipelines, including metadata capture, image processing, and quality control.
  • Use AI development tools and agents to accelerate implementation, debugging, testing, exploration, and maintenance.
