Senior Software Engineer

Path Robotics•Columbus, OH

About The Position

Path Robotics is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to architect and maintain its codebase, building systems and tools that help machine learning, computer vision, and robotics engineers explore ideas and turn them into production-grade solutions. The role works closely with research teams and the data platform team to create a robust, scalable, developer-friendly foundation. The engineer will build production-grade Python systems and internal tools, APIs, and libraries; promote engineering best practices; and design CI/CD workflows for research-heavy Python projects. The role also serves as a technical lead within the research team, making engineering decisions and mentoring others. The position focuses on software engineering rather than tuning models, while collaborating across research and production.

Requirements

  • Strong background in software architecture and large-scale backend development in any language, such as C#, Java, or Python.
  • Experience building developer tools, frameworks, or platforms for technical teams.
  • Proven experience with cloud-based development, including designing and managing data storage, persistence, and secure access in cloud environments, and integrating on-premises infrastructure with cloud services.
  • Willingness to learn ML, CV, and robotics workflows well enough to support them; the role's primary strength is building software rather than tuning models.
  • Ability to thrive in collaborative environments and act as a bridge between research and production.
  • Passion for mentoring peers, fostering best practices, and promoting continuous improvement.
  • Commitment to high-quality, reliable code.

Responsibilities

  • Architect production-grade Python systems that make experimentation, prototyping, and deployment fast, reliable, and low-friction for research teams.
  • Lead engineering best practices around code quality, testing, modularity, and documentation to keep the codebase clean and maintainable.
  • Build internal tooling, APIs, and libraries that abstract infrastructure complexity so researchers can focus on ML, CV, and robotics problems.
  • Collaborate with the data platform team to integrate data processing, training, and inference capabilities without owning those pipelines end-to-end.
  • Design CI/CD workflows for research-heavy Python projects to support the transition from prototype to production.
  • Act as a technical lead within the research team, make key engineering decisions, and mentor others in writing high-quality, maintainable code.

Benefits

  • Free lunch every day
  • Flexible PTO
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance
  • Six weeks of 100% paid parental leave, plus an additional six to eight weeks of maternity leave for the birthing parent (12–14 weeks total)
  • 401K through Empower
  • Paid referral bonus
