About The Position

Workiva is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and implement high-quality software solutions in an AI-enabled organization. The role uses a diverse technology ecosystem, including Java, Kotlin, Go, TypeScript, React, and Dart. Candidates with experience in modern object-oriented languages and contemporary technologies are valued, as are those who can adapt and learn quickly. The engineer collaborates with product owners, designers, stakeholders, customers, and support teams to refine requirements, align work with product strategy, take part in product discovery, and resolve production issues. The role includes developing and documenting technical solutions, writing and reviewing maintainable code, creating and executing automated tests, troubleshooting complex systems, and using AI tools to accelerate development and enhance platform features. The engineer also establishes performance metrics, communicates technical issues to varied audiences, and mentors other engineers. Workiva supports employees working from an office or remotely from any location within their country of employment. Reliable internet access is required for remote work, and the position may involve up to 15% travel. Employees must complete security and privacy training tailored to their roles.

Requirements

At least 2 years of relevant experience with a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
Strong foundation in computer science, including data structures, algorithms, object-oriented software design, and cloud-based distributed systems.
Demonstrated expertise in modern programming languages such as Dart, React, TypeScript, Go, Java, and/or Kotlin.
Expertise in debugging complex systems or applications.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical issues to technical and non-technical audiences.
Strong problem-solving, critical-thinking, and adaptability skills, with a commitment to staying current with technologies and software engineering best practices.
Reliable internet access for remote work.
Ability to travel up to 15%.

Nice To Haves

At least 4 years of professional software development experience.
Experience as a technical mentor and ability to coach and mentor junior engineers.
Experience working in an agile development environment with a focus on continuous improvement and delivery.
Experience developing for service-oriented architecture.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and implement high-quality software solutions that meet business and technical requirements.
Use AI tooling to accelerate development and enhance platform features.
Collaborate with product owners, designers, and stakeholders to refine project requirements and align work with product vision and strategy.
Write clean, efficient, maintainable code that follows industry best practices and coding standards.
Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to maintain code quality and consistency.
Deliver and document team- or group-level technical solutions that meet or exceed customer expectations.
Develop and execute comprehensive test plans and automated unit, integration, and functional tests.
Debug and troubleshoot complex issues across service and application contexts.
Work with support teams to triage and resolve production issues.
Participate in product discovery with customers and stakeholders to gain insights, validate hypotheses, and identify opportunities for innovation.
Establish KPIs and metrics to identify problems, suggest solutions, and drive continuous improvement.
Mentor and coach engineers technically and culturally.
Communicate complex technical issues clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
Complete role-specific security and privacy training.
