About The Position

Jorie AI is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and deliver software for healthcare and other regulated industries, including automation, web applications, and platform services. The role turns loosely defined client needs into production-ready solutions such as automation workflows, backend services, web applications, and customer deployments. The engineer sets technical direction, makes architecture decisions, mentors teammates, works directly with clients, operations teams, and subject-matter experts, and owns solutions from initial discussion through production support. The position covers backend and API development, web applications, browser/desktop/computer-vision automation, third-party integrations, SQL and data design, reliability, deployment and operations, incident response, client communication, scoping and estimation, and evaluation of AI/ML and LLM applications. It also includes responsibility for security and compliance practices aligned with HIPAA and HITRUST, documentation, mentoring Software Engineer I and II teammates, hiring and technical interviews, and improving engineering practices across the team. This is a remote role for candidates in the United States, except candidates located in New York, California, or Washington state. The stated schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM CST; flexible hours may be required based on business needs. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the USA. The employer states that it does not offer visa sponsorship and does not accept contractors, C2C arrangements, or recruiting agencies.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of professional software development experience.
  • Expert proficiency in Python, including production-grade design, testing, and performance tuning.
  • Proven ability to take loosely defined requirements and deliver working production solutions.
  • Experience designing and building backend services and APIs.
  • Strong SQL skills, including schema design, migrations, query performance, and concurrency.
  • Experience owning production systems, including deployment, monitoring, incident response, and root-cause analysis.
  • Experience with CI/CD and containerized deployment, such as Docker.
  • Experience integrating with third-party systems and APIs.
  • Client- or stakeholder-facing experience, including explaining technical decisions to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical work across a team.
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA or similar data privacy requirements and secure handling of sensitive data.
  • Proficiency with Git, including branching strategies and code review practices.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the USA.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with FastAPI, Flask, Django, or similar frameworks.
  • Experience with React and TypeScript.
  • Production experience with Selenium, Playwright, or other browser automation.
  • Experience with OpenCV, OCR, or image processing.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Helm, or OpenShift.

  • Experience with PostgreSQL or SQL Server.
  • Experience with authentication and identity systems such as OIDC, SAML, or Keycloak.
  • Experience with task queues, distributed processing, or managing a fleet of workers.
  • Experience with healthcare revenue cycle management workflows, healthcare data standards such as X12 EDI or HL7, or EHR integrations.

  • Experience bringing AI/ML or LLM tools into production.
  • Experience with logging, alerting, and observability tools.
  • PowerShell scripting and Windows environment experience.

Responsibilities

  • Set technical direction and engineering standards across automation, backend, and web development.
  • Design services, automation, and data flows connecting legacy systems and modern platforms, and document architectural tradeoffs.
  • Design and build typed, tested, extensible Python services and APIs, such as with FastAPI.
  • Build or guide web applications and internal tools and coordinate API contracts and user workflows with front-end engineers.
  • Lead browser, desktop, and computer-vision automation design using tools such as Selenium, Playwright, OpenCV, and OCR.
  • Own third-party system, API, and client-interface integrations, including data mapping and error handling.
  • Design database schemas, migrations, and queries for correctness and performance as data volume grows.
  • Design for failures, including retries, recovery of partial work, and safe concurrent processing.
  • Own system build, deployment, and operations, including CI/CD, containers, and cloud or customer-hosted environments.
  • Lead incident response and root-cause analysis.
  • Serve as a technical contact for client IT and business teams and explain technical tradeoffs and constraints in plain language.
  • Assess feasibility of new work, break it into deliverable phases, and provide effort estimates.
  • Evaluate AI/ML and LLM tools for practical value and lead their introduction into production.
  • Own secure credential handling, access control, logging, and audit practices in line with HIPAA and HITRUST.
  • Write design, deployment, and operations documentation that others can follow independently.
  • Mentor Software Engineer I and II teammates through code reviews, design reviews, pairing, and technical guidance.
