Atoms•Mountain View, CA
•$176,000 - $242,000•Onsite

About The Position

Atoms is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for its Bionic Enterprise Platform team. The role builds shared software and infrastructure that help Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) deliver solutions across Atoms. Working closely with FDEs, the engineer identifies recurring needs, converts successful deployments into reusable capabilities, and makes solutions faster to build, easier to operate, and more reliable. The engineer develops shared foundations for AI-powered applications and workflows, including access to models, business systems, and data, with shared authentication, permissions, and observability. The role also creates tools, APIs, SDKs, and deployment templates that enable independent development while maintaining security and reliability. It includes operating the platform in production and improving architecture, testing, monitoring, recovery, reliability, performance, cost, and upgrades as deployments grow beyond their initial use cases. The position is based in Atoms’ Mountain View and San Francisco offices and requires onsite work five days a week. The base salary range is $176,000–$242,000 per year. Compensation may also include equity awards and an annual performance-based bonus. The listed benefits apply to USA full-time exempt employees and may change at the company’s discretion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of experience as a software engineer, including experience building infrastructure, platforms, or shared backend services.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including designing clear APIs, modeling data, reasoning about distributed systems, and making practical tradeoffs among speed, reliability, and complexity.
  • Experience turning a specific implementation into a reusable capability and knowing when an abstraction is useful or premature.
  • Developer-focused mindset, including care for documentation, debugging, onboarding, and making reliable development straightforward.
  • Experience integrating systems through APIs, authentication, and data pipelines, with understanding of access controls and safe handling of business data.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, containers, CI/CD, and production observability.
  • Experience building AI-powered applications or supporting infrastructure for them, such as model gateways, tool integrations, workflow execution, or evaluations.
  • Effective use of AI coding tools, with the ability to understand, test, debug, and maintain the systems built.
  • Strong ownership and collaboration, including working alongside FDEs on fast-moving delivery problems and turning lessons into improvements for the broader team.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with GCP or Azure, Docker, and Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Forward Deployed Engineers to understand their work, identify recurring needs, and determine which should become shared platform capabilities.
  • Turn proven solutions into reusable services, integrations, and components that other engineers can adopt with minimal setup.
  • Build foundations for AI-powered applications and workflows, including access to models, business systems, and data, with shared authentication, permissions, and observability.
  • Create tools, APIs, SDKs, and deployment templates so FDEs can build, test, and ship independently while meeting security and reliability requirements.
  • Strengthen architecture, testing, monitoring, and failure recovery so successful deployments can expand beyond their initial use cases.
  • Own the platform in production, including reliability, performance, cost, and upgrades; establish clear ownership and support paths as solutions move into ongoing operation.
  • Measure developer adoption, delivery times, duplication, and reliable operation, and use FDE feedback to keep the platform focused on real needs.

Benefits
