About The Position

Assurity is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own the technical health of multiple systems, independently lead large projects, and build complex solutions. The role sets engineering standards that support reliable, secure, and cost-effective software; leads complex incident resolution; establishes practices for agent-directed development; owns part of the team’s shared engineering context; and mentors engineers across levels. The engineer routinely uses approved AI tools where appropriate and remains accountable for the quality, security, and correctness of all delivered work, using professional judgment to verify results or choose another method when needed. The position combines system design and technical stewardship, project leadership, hands-on software development, quality and security practices, production operations, and mentoring. Responsibilities include directing AI agents on substantial implementation, testing, and documentation work; building and maintaining enterprise software; integrating data from services and databases; establishing reusable workflows and team verification practices; and following changes through release into production and real use. The role is remote with occasional on-site attendance. It includes a rotating on-call schedule after training, including nights and weekends, and may involve occasional scheduled evening or weekend work for deployments, cutovers, migrations, and go-lives. Work may exceed 40 hours per week. Applicants in CA, CO, DC, HI, IL, MA, MD, MN, NV, NJ, NY, RI, VT, and WA are not currently being considered for this position.

Requirements

  • Typically 6 or more years of professional software development experience, including leading an initiative end to end and serving as the recognized go-to engineer for a system.
  • A sustained portfolio of systems shipped iteratively with AI agents, including reusable workflows, specifications, and verification practices used by others, with sound judgment in verifying outputs.
  • Experience owning the design and technical health of production systems, including design patterns, performance, reliability, security, and production monitoring.
  • Experience leading large projects end to end, planning scope, cost, and schedule, with or without an assigned business analyst, and working directly with business users and stakeholders.
  • Deep experience with relational database systems such as SQL Server or PostgreSQL, object-oriented programming, and web application development; experience with document or graph data.
  • Experience building interfaces with modern HTML/CSS and building functional solutions using more than one of Vue, Angular, JavaScript, C#, TypeScript, Python, .NET MVC, Entity Framework, or REST APIs.
  • Ability to design and implement unit and integration tests and lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex production issues.
  • Experience with modern IDEs, preferably Visual Studio; modern source control and CI/CD pipelines, preferably Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, and Git; Linux and container operations; Agile processes; and modern data formats, preferably JSON and XML.
  • Experience mentoring and coaching engineers across experience levels and ability to make technical decisions quickly and explain tradeoffs.
  • Strong problem diagnosis, troubleshooting, and creative problem-solving skills; professional written and verbal communication with technical and business partners and leaders; organizational skills to manage multiple tasks within timelines and budgets; and business acumen.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced remote team environment and rapidly learn and master diverse technologies and techniques.
  • Demonstrated talent in values, work intensity, achiever, positivity, resourcefulness, command, relationship-extension, and exactness.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to routinely direct AI agents on substantial implementation, testing, and documentation work when suitable; provide clear intent, context, constraints, and completion criteria; verify outputs; follow approved tool, data, and access rules; protect secrets and sensitive data; and own delivered work.
  • Ability to participate in a rotating on-call schedule, including nights and weekends, respond promptly to alerts, and perform occasional planned off-hours work.
  • Consistent and reliable attendance.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical health of multiple systems, serving as design authority and guiding decisions about components, patterns, performance, reliability, and implementation.
  • Plan system technical direction and near-term roadmaps; manage technical debt, performance, and reliability; and keep systems maintainable, secure, stable, and fit for purpose.
  • Document design decisions and implementation guidance, and participate in solution design, reviews, and troubleshooting throughout delivery.
  • Lead large projects independently from intake through specification, design, development, UAT, and rollout, managing scope, cost, and schedule and raising tradeoffs early.
  • Write stories and acceptance criteria and confirm requirements and completed work directly with business users and stakeholders.
  • Direct AI agents to build and harden complex services, multi-agent workflows, and integrations from proof of concept to production; personally code when appropriate.
  • Integrate data from back-end services and databases, and maintain, expand, and scale enterprise-level software.
  • Set team standards for testing, verification, evaluations, guardrails, observability, security, performance, cost, and CI/CD promotion within department standards.
  • Own and maintain a portion of the team’s shared context, including repository instruction files, skills, review checklists, specifications, templates, and context practices.
  • Design reusable agent workflows and lead orchestration or multi-agent design when useful; model agent-directed development for the team.
  • Establish verification strategies and review practices for AI-generated changes, identify recurring failure modes, and personally review the highest-risk changes.
  • Write unit and integration tests and evaluations; verify agent-produced changes through testing, debugging, and risk-appropriate review before release.
  • Create and maintain software documentation for the systems.
  • Promote changes through dev, test, stage, and production CI/CD pipelines, follow changes into production and real use, monitor systems, and improve alerting and recovery.
  • Participate in on-call shifts, serve as an escalation point, lead complex production incident resolution, and follow up on root causes.
  • Mentor engineers across levels and IT, help at least two teammates develop AI fluency with portfolio evidence, and teach effective agent delegation.
  • Partner with Software Solution Architects on system and platform patterns, share design context, and turn proven patterns into shared team practice.
  • Collaborate with engineers, business systems analysts, product owners, project managers, operations, and business leaders; estimate and log time daily; provide status updates; and demonstrate project functionality.
  • Maintain skills through training and study, including AI fluency courses, and evaluate emerging trends and AI capabilities for fit with system roadmaps.
  • Participate in rotating on-call coverage after training, including nights and weekends; respond promptly to production alerts and take immediate containment actions when needed.
  • Perform occasional scheduled evening or weekend production deployments, cutovers, data migrations, and go-lives with advance notice.
