About The Position

Watney Robotics builds and deploys autonomous robotic systems to address labor shortages, hazardous working conditions, and operational complexity in critical infrastructure, beginning with data centers. The Senior Software Engineer - Tools will build and own tools that transform field-captured robot data into information used to train models and guide research and development. The role focuses on data quality, dataset curation, visualization, annotation, and review workflows, working closely with machine-learning engineers, fleet-debugging engineers, and annotators.

• Experience building an internal tool that became central to how a team works.
• Experience building visualization or analysis tools for large volumes of sensor and video data.
• Experience building dataset tooling or a data pipeline used by machine-learning engineers for training.
• Experience designing a labeling or review workflow used to annotate data at scale.

Responsibilities

• Own the viewer engineers use to play back robot data and align telemetry with errors.
• Own dataset curation, including the dataset API and tools for finding and grouping episodes and building training sets.
• Build annotation tools with the software team and evaluate whether to build or buy tools.
• Develop the quality review process for annotated data.
• Collaborate with the machine-learning team, engineers who debug the fleet, and annotators who label data.
