About The Position

Muon Space is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help scale its core platforms. The role involves designing foundational architecture, delivering customer-facing features, and addressing complex technical challenges in a collaborative, fast-moving team. The engineer will work closely with other engineering teams to translate business needs into reliable solutions and will help shape the systems customers depend on. This position is hybrid and requires working on-site at Muon’s San Jose, California office three days per week. The role focuses on building and evolving high-performance, scalable, resilient systems; contributing to architectural direction; and owning features from concept through deployment and ongoing operation. The position requires access to export-controlled information. Applicants must meet the stated U.S. export-control eligibility requirements. The salary range is $213,000–$237,000, plus an equity grant and benefits. Final compensation depends on skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location.

Requirements

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
At least 8 years of software engineering experience.
Strong production-environment proficiency in Python, C++, or Rust.
Experience in distributed systems, backend services, or platform development.
Demonstrated experience building and operating mission-critical services with uptime, reliability, and performance requirements.
Knowledge of cloud-native infrastructure, such as containers, service orchestration, and observability stacks.
Strong debugging, profiling, and code optimization skills.
Experience mentoring junior engineers or leading medium-to-large technical initiatives.
Must meet the stated eligibility requirements for access to export-controlled information.

Nice To Haves

Comfort working in a highly interdisciplinary environment with engineers, operators, and domain specialists.
Familiarity with real-time data processing pipelines or high-throughput systems.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, or automated deployment workflows.
Contributions to open-source projects or a track record of technical writing and knowledge sharing.
