Senior Software Engineer

About The Position

Gravitee is hiring Senior Software Engineers to build core products and the next-generation product surface in Gamma. Engineers will join one of three product areas: API Management and the gateway runtime, Access Management, or the Event Gateway for Kafka. The work spans API governance, identity, event streaming, and AI agent management. These are new US roles intended to establish US-hours ownership of Level 3 and Level 4 product escalations and increase delivery capacity for Gamma parity and the AI Agent Management roadmap. Engineers will spend roughly 80% of their time on feature delivery and 20% on L3/L4 support and bug fixes, embedded in a product team based in Europe. The team will match candidates to the product area best suited to their experience. Denver, Colorado is preferred; candidates elsewhere in the US are acceptable with monthly travel to the Denver hub. This is a hands-on engineering role involving design, implementation, testing, release, and iteration. Engineers build and evolve Java services and APIs, including performance-sensitive asynchronous runtime code, and may contribute to Gamma console experiences through backend APIs and TypeScript/Angular interfaces. They help maintain secure behavior and safe upgrades, including secure defaults, certificate and secret handling, audit logs, safe migrations, and backward compatibility. The role also includes US-hours participation in an L3 pager duty rotation, contributing to AI agent management capabilities such as AI Gateways, MCP, and agent-to-agent interactions, and using LLMs and AI-assisted development tools with sound engineering judgment. Engineers write automated tests and collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers across international teams, including through code and design reviews.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience building and operating production software on a team that ships and supports its own product, including personally resolving production incidents.
  • Strong Java experience, including maintainable REST APIs and backend services; strong C# with comparable object-oriented depth is also considered.
  • Solid understanding of API design, data modeling, distributed systems, and asynchronous workflows.
  • Experience with relational or document data stores, including safe migrations and backward compatibility.
  • Security-first mindset, including knowledge of authentication and authorization fundamentals, secure defaults, and certificate and secret handling.
  • Experience with automated testing, Git-based development, code review, and iterative product delivery.
  • Hands-on experience using LLMs or AI coding assistants in an engineering workflow, and the judgment to review and improve their output.
  • Clear communication skills and ability to take an ambiguous problem through to production.
  • Willingness to join an L3 pager duty rotation during US hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Reactive Java technologies such as Vert.x, RxJava, or Netty, or experience with an API gateway, proxy, or service-mesh vendor or platform team.
  • Experience implementing OAuth 2.0 and OIDC flows, SAML 2.0, SCIM, MFA, WebAuthn/FIDO2, or FAPI, CIBA, and UMA profiles.
  • Knowledge of Kafka internals, binary protocols, backpressure, and performance under load.
  • TypeScript experience with Angular or another component-based framework, including data-rich interfaces.
  • Cloud-native experience with Docker, Kubernetes, operators and CRDs, and Elasticsearch or OpenSearch.
  • Experience with MCP, Agent2Agent (A2A), tool calling, LLM proxies, or building LLM-powered applications; prior production experience is not required.
  • Experience with open-source software or enterprise developer platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver features end to end, from technical design through implementation, testing, release, and iteration, for API Management and the gateway runtime, Access Management, or the Event Gateway for Kafka.
  • Build and evolve Java services and APIs, including performance-sensitive asynchronous runtime code.
  • Contribute to Gamma console experiences through backend APIs and TypeScript and Angular interfaces as needed.
  • Maintain secure behavior and safe upgrades, including secure defaults, certificate and secret handling, audit logs, safe migrations, and backward compatibility.
  • Own US-hours Level 3 and Level 4 escalations for the product as part of the L3 pager duty rotation.
  • Help bring AI agent management to the platform, including AI Gateways, MCP, and agent-to-agent interactions.
  • Use LLMs and AI-assisted development tools for prototyping, implementation, testing, and debugging, validating AI-generated work with sound engineering judgment.
  • Write meaningful automated tests and contribute to reliable delivery across the open-source platform and Enterprise Edition.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers, including Europe-based teams, and improve solutions through code and design reviews.
