About The Position

Alchemi is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to own architecture and delivery across its core platform. The role is part of a small, senior engineering team that values sound judgment, maintainable systems, and preventing mistakes over measuring output by lines of code. The platform supports AI-powered drug development and regulated workflows used by major pharmaceutical companies and contract research organizations.

The team works with low process and high trust, follows a two-week release cadence, carefully reviews design specifications, and resists ticket sprawl. It is based in New York City and maintains daily overlap across a team spanning Pacific Time to Western Europe. The role offers ownership in shaping product direction, working practices, and future development.

Requirements

• Demonstrated design judgment and the ability to explain why a design is wrong.
• A track record of building systems that remain maintainable.
• Fluency with agentic development, including specs-first work, using agents as a force multiplier, and maintaining a verification loop.
• Experience across backend, front-end, and DevOps, with Python as the central language.
• Low-ego, consensus-oriented collaboration and willingness to listen first.
• Ability to work with daily colleague overlap; a fully asynchronous working relationship is not a fit.
