About The Position

BigBear.ai is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support development work modernizing the ORION Decision Support Platform, the DoW’s enterprise system for global force-readiness insight, under a new multi-year contract. This hands-on role evaluates, recommends, implements, and oversees development and deployment activities. The position is remote, and occasional CONUS travel may be required. Applicants must currently reside in the United States. The engineer develops and maintains Angular user-interface components and C#/.NET REST services; designs and integrates APIs and SQL Server data access; contributes to CI/CD pipelines and containerized Kubernetes deployments; and addresses code quality, security, and operational needs. The role also includes testing, technical documentation, troubleshooting production issues, and performance tuning to meet IL5 performance SLAs.

Requirements

Must currently reside in the United States.
SECRET clearance.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent experience is considered.
At least 5 years of professional software development experience with full-stack responsibility.
Hands-on expertise with Angular, modern TypeScript, RxJS, and component-driven architecture.
Hands-on expertise with C#/.NET 8, Web API, and Entity Framework for data access.
Hands-on expertise with SQL Server schema design, query optimization, and stored procedures.
Hands-on expertise with Git/GitLab, branching strategies, and merge-request workflows.
Docker fundamentals and at least basic familiarity with Kubernetes or other container orchestration.
Working knowledge of automated testing and CI/CD concepts.

Nice To Haves

Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD TS/SCI clearance; existing clearance is a plus.
Experience with military or defense systems.
Experience with cloud platforms, specifically AWS.
Experience with database management systems, including SQL Server.
Experience in API development and integration.
Experience with cloud-based development and deployment.
Strong communication skills for collaborating with diverse teams.

Responsibilities

Implement UI components using Angular, SCSS, and PrimeNG, and build REST services in C#/.NET.
Write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, creating mocks and stubs as needed.
Design and consume REST endpoints and optimize SQL Server database access, including stored procedures and indexing.
Work with ETL engineers to bring data from repositories and other DoD feeds into the data model.
Contribute Git CI pipeline definitions, containerize services with Docker, and write Helm values for Kubernetes deployments.
Address static-code scans, container vulnerability findings, and DISA STIG hardening tasks.
Participate in peer reviews, pair programming, and backlog refinements, following clean-code and SOLID principles.
Document technical decisions, API contracts, and runbooks for operational hand-off.
Profile front-end load times, tune .NET memory and CPU usage, and optimize SQL queries to meet IL5 performance SLAs.
Investigate production issues, create post-mortems, and implement corrective actions.
