About The Position

The Azure Cloud Native Platform organization builds the distributed systems that power virtual machines and large-scale applications across Microsoft Azure. These systems operate at global scale and provide customers with reliable, elastic, and efficient access to compute capacity. The Azure Compute Fleet team is building a platform that helps customers provision and manage compute capacity across virtual machine sizes, availability zones, pricing models, and Azure regions. Azure Compute Fleet can distribute workloads across multiple regions, helping customers reduce their dependency on any single region, improve capacity resiliency, and deploy compute where it is available. Multi-Region Compute Fleet supports scenarios such as stateless services, large batch jobs, data processing, and continuous integration workloads. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will lead the design and development of a new solution that orchestrates Virtual Machine Scale Sets across Azure regions. The solution will help applications move beyond region-specific infrastructure by coordinating capacity, placement, scaling, and lifecycle operations across multiple scale sets and regions. You will work on complex distributed-systems problems involving regional capacity constraints, fault isolation, control-plane reliability, asynchronous orchestration, and safe recovery from partial failures. You will partner with teams across Azure Compute, networking, capacity management, and application platforms to define the architecture and deliver the solution incrementally. This role provides an opportunity to build a foundational Azure capability that helps applications remain available and continue to scale when a region experiences capacity constraints or service disruption. Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.
