Senior Software Engineer, Digital Operations

BETA Technologies•South Burlington, VT
•$155,000 - $185,000

About The Position

BETA Technologies is building in-house manufacturing software for a certified aircraft program, including specification libraries, work plans, floor execution, nonconformance handling, and inventory traceability. The Senior Software Engineer will shape this manufacturing system and own major projects from conversations with production-floor operators through operation of systems used by hundreds of users. The role is engineering-led, with data modeling and architecture central to creating reliable records that support the shipment of certified aircraft. The engineer will design, develop, and operate systems that connect engineering parts to work plans and signed-off floor execution, with materials, tools, and inspections tied to the record. The role also involves defining system architecture, building integrations and data pipelines, embedding with production and quality teams, supporting production systems, and contributing to hiring and engineering standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 6 years of professional software engineering experience, including ownership of production backend systems.
  • Daily use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Cursor, while maintaining the design review, testing, and validation rigor required for high-assurance systems.
  • Deep experience designing relational data models for traceability and reliability in complex, state-heavy business domains.
  • Experience building robust third-party integrations, investigating APIs, working with support teams, and accommodating unreliable or inconsistent external systems.
  • Ability to explain complex work to nontechnical partners, build credibility, support decision-making, and drive adoption.
  • Experience deploying and operating production applications on AWS or a similar cloud provider.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building software for manufacturing or production environments.
  • Experience in aerospace or another regulated industry, such as AS9100, FAA, or ITAR/EAR, and with audit-trail or traceability systems.
  • Experience designing or building ERP, MES, QMS, PLM, or inventory management systems.
  • Familiarity with BOM lineage, engineering change control, serialized traceability, or NCR/CAPA/FAI workflows.
  • Background in data engineering or analytics pipelines.
  • Previous experience at a startup or in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and operation of systems that take engineering parts from specification through work plans to signed-off floor execution, connecting materials, tools, and inspections to the record.
  • Own data modeling for core manufacturing domains and design schemas that meet current needs while supporting future development.
  • Define the architecture of owned systems and document decisions through design documents and reviews.
  • Build reliable integrations with PLM, ERP, and warehouse systems, along with durable, observable pipelines that keep systems in sync.
  • Design traceability, audit trails, and record integrity into systems from the start.
  • Work with production, quality, and manufacturing engineering teams on-site and translate their needs into systems that can withstand an FAA audit.
  • Support production systems and lead incident response, using lessons learned to drive continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to hiring and uphold standards for testing, code quality, and documentation.

Benefits

  • Restricted Stock Units and Performance Stock Units for full-time team members.
