About The Position

Leidos seeks an accomplished Senior Software Engineer to architect, develop, and lead innovative software solutions for tactical strike guided munition programs. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical/Aerospace Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent
  • 12+ years’ relevant software engineering experience (10+ with MS)
  • Demonstrated leadership of software development teams on complex projects
  • Expert-level proficiency in C/C++
  • Experience with Python and Java
  • Deep understanding of open systems architectures and MOSA principles
  • Familiarity with real-time embedded systems and RTOS environments (e.g., VxWorks, FreeRTOS)
  • Strong knowledge of software architecture, design patterns, and best practices
  • Excellent communication skills for interfacing with customers and leadership
  • US citizenship and ability to obtain a Secret security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with embedded missile, aerospace, or weapons systems
  • Implementation of open architecture frameworks (FACE, OMS, SOSA)
  • Containerization and microservices (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Guidance & control algorithms, navigation, mission planning systems (NOMS, JMPS)
  • Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), SysML
  • Knowledge of DO-178C, MIL-STD-882e, or similar standards
  • MATLAB/Simulink for algorithm development and simulation
  • Previous technical leadership roles (IPT Lead, Software PM)
  • Agile Scrum Master or Product Owner experience

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and manage software engineering teams (5-15 engineers) for complex, multi-disciplinary defense projects
  • Define and implement full-stack software architectures and design patterns for missile system applications (guidance, navigation, control, telemetry, mission planning)
  • Oversee technical, design, and code reviews to ensure software quality and compliance with standards
  • Make strategic decisions on frameworks, tools, and approaches to maximize modularity, reusability, and maintainability
  • Serve as primary technical interface with government customers and internal management
  • Drive adoption of open systems architectures and Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA)
  • Ensure compliance with military and aviation standards for safety, cybersecurity, and risk management
  • Support flight test operations, post-test analysis, and continuous software integration
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, code quality, and innovation
