Senior Software Engineer, Custom Apps and AI Agents

Cuesta Partners
•$150,000 - $250,000

About The Position

Cuesta is creating a team that builds custom data applications and AI agents for mid-market companies. As a founding engineer, you will help select the team's tools, define its AI-native ways of working, and deliver software that runs in client businesses. You will work with clients and Cuesta teammates to understand business operations, scope solutions, and design, build, deploy, and improve software. The role includes building custom AI agents and LLM features, operating production applications, and turning engagement learnings into reusable components. You will also help shape the team's technology stack, processes, and hiring as it grows. The position offers opportunities to grow from shipping an initial change and leading client demos to delivering production applications or agents, serving as a technical lead across engagements, training new engineers, and owning a core part of Cuesta's engineering approach.

  • Daily, hands-on use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code.
  • Strong modern web development fundamentals.
  • Experience deploying and operating production applications on AWS, Azure, GCP, Vercel, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure as code such as Terraform or Pulumi.
  • Comfort exploring and scoping ambiguous problems with clients and teammates and turning them into working systems.

  • Demo a working solution in under a week and ship to production in weeks.
  • Build custom AI agents and LLM features with solution architects and data engineers, connecting to client data, tools, and workflows.
  • Use AI coding tools such as Claude Code and develop the team's playbook for using them.
  • Deploy and operate applications on platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Vercel, using Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure as code where appropriate.
  • Build production-grade reliability and security into applications.
  • Turn engagement learnings into reusable components that speed up future builds.
  • Help shape the team's technology stack, processes, and hiring.
