Senior Software Engineer - Backend
About The Position
Deploy is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to build and improve backend systems for its AI infrastructure platform. The role involves developing production-ready products and features, working autonomously, and addressing challenges of scale. The ideal candidate has experience building core services and web-based APIs from the ground up, cares about both product and technology, and writes clean, maintainable code. The engineer will work across REST APIs, microservices, data ingestion and processing systems, and distributed task and job processing systems. They will contribute to product and backend improvements, engineering standards, testing, security, and production support. The role may include participation in on-call rotations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience building scalable web applications.
- Experience or a strong interest in writing applications in Node.js.
- Experience designing and implementing highly available distributed systems or microservices.
- Experience building platforms that expose scalable backend APIs.
- Deep experience working with relational databases; Postgres is preferred.
- Strong belief in high code quality, automated testing, and other engineering best practices.
- Attention to detail and a passion for correctness.
- Comfort with ambiguity and scoping solutions with teammates.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a bias toward action.

Responsibilities
- Design, implement, or improve features across backend systems, including REST APIs, microservices, data ingestion and processing systems, and distributed task and job processing systems.
- Write and maintain scalable, performant, secure code that can be shared across platforms.
- Contribute to the product and core backend systems by suggesting and executing improvements.
- Improve engineering standards, tooling, processes, and security.
- Practice test-driven development.
- Debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack.
- Participate in on-call rotations as needed to ensure prompt and effective resolution of critical technical issues.
- Use OWASP Top 10 techniques to secure code against vulnerabilities.
- Maintain awareness of industry best practices for data maintenance and handling as they relate to the role.
- Adhere to policies, guidelines, and procedures for protecting information assets.
- Report actual or suspected security or policy violations and breaches to an appropriate authority.
