Senior Software Engineer – Agent Builder (Alwin by DataSnipper)

DataSnipper•New York, NY
•$225,000 - $235,000•Hybrid

About The Position

DataSnipper is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for the Agent Builder team behind Alwin, its agentic automation platform for audit and finance. Alwin agents run multi-step audit procedures over client evidence and produce completed workpapers with numbers traced to their sources, while humans plan, review, and sign off. The role focuses on building Agent Builder, the product through which firms encode audit methodology into governed, versioned agents that can be run consistently across a firm. You will help shape how auditors author production agents in a regulated domain, working in a fast-moving team with a high engineering bar. The position is based in DataSnipper’s New York office and is hybrid, with at least three days onsite each week. You will own features end-to-end across a Python backend stack—including FastAPI, Pydantic, and MongoDB—on Azure, through to the React web app. You will collaborate with Agent Runtime and Evals teams, as well as product, design, and audit methodology experts, to create agent authoring, testing, governance, and quality capabilities.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of software engineering experience.
  • Strong, production-grade Python skills.
  • Hands-on experience building and operating production agentic systems, including control loops, tool calling, planning versus execution, retries, and fallbacks—not only prompt-and-parse pipelines.
  • Experience with LLM APIs and agent frameworks across more than one model provider.
  • Solid experience building data-driven web APIs on a major cloud platform.
  • Strong fundamentals in software architecture, system design, and data modelling.
  • A track record of owning product features end-to-end, including frontend work in React or a similar framework.
  • Experience with unit, integration, and end-to-end testing strategies, and a quality-first mindset.
  • Proficiency with AI-assisted engineering; the team uses Claude Code.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work directly with auditors and product partners to define what “correct” means.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building low-code or configuration products, workflow designers, rule engines, or DSLs.
  • Experience with agent evaluation, including datasets, offline and online experiments, and failure classification.
  • Experience with versioning, permissions, and publishing in a multi-tenant platform.
  • Experience with durable workflow engines such as Temporal or multi-agent orchestration in production.
  • Experience with document processing, including OCR, classification, or structured extraction.
  • Domain experience in audit methodology, accounting, or fintech.

Responsibilities

  • Build an authoring experience that encodes a firm’s audit methodology into configurable, multi-step agents.
  • Design the agent definition model, including steps, tools, inputs, thresholds, planning behavior, and human-in-the-loop gates.
  • Choose abstractions that allow non-engineers to build consistent agents without writing prompts from scratch.
  • Work with the Agent Runtime team to ensure authored agents compile onto the base agent, tools, and orchestration layer.
  • Own versioning, publishing, and governance in the Agent Library, including permissions to build, publish, and run agents.
  • Enable builders to test and evaluate agents before publishing, in collaboration with the Agent Runtime and Evals teams.
  • Instrument authored agents in production and use traces from Grafana, OpenTelemetry, and MLflow to identify where definitions break down.
  • Implement security, access-control, and audit-trail requirements for regulated customers, aligned with OWASP GenAI.
  • Own product features end-to-end across the Python stack on Azure and the React web app.
  • Architect services with clear contracts that other Alwin teams can build on.
  • Raise the engineering bar through code reviews, mentorship, and well-documented technical decisions.
  • Break down epics and manage ambiguity with product, design, and audit methodology experts.
  • Influence the team’s technical direction, own delivery without close supervision, anticipate issues, and ensure high-quality work.
  • Build cross-functional relationships, provide and receive feedback, adapt to ambiguity, and exercise sound judgment when balancing speed and accuracy.

Benefits

  • Excellent salary and stock participation plan.
  • Flexible paid time off.
  • Comprehensive medical and dental coverage.
  • 401K match.
  • Paid parental leave.
  • Company-sponsored lunch.
  • Hybrid work, with at least three days onsite in the New York City office.
  • Opportunities to learn and develop in a flexible and growing organization.
  • International working environment with friendly and driven colleagues.
  • Access to OpenUp and Talkspace mental health and wellness platforms.
  • Social activities for team building.
