Senior Software Engineer – Storage
About The Position
The Senior Software Engineer – Storage designs, develops, troubleshoots, and debugs software for HPE’s Alletra Enterprise Storage Platform, including storage services, data-path components, and systems infrastructure. The role develops scalable, highly concurrent solutions using modern C++ in Linux environments and contributes to distributed storage features with a focus on availability, data integrity, and operational efficiency. The engineer investigates and resolves functional, reliability, and performance issues; collaborates across software, performance, platform, and quality engineering teams; and participates in design, code, and test reviews. The position also develops automated tests and validation frameworks, evaluates technologies that can improve storage capabilities and engineering productivity, and mentors less experienced engineers. This is a hybrid role requiring an average of two days per week in an HPE office.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent.
- Typically 6–10 years of experience.
- Extensive experience with software systems design tools and languages.
- C++ experience, including STL, Boost, templates, basic C++, and object-oriented programming concepts; Python experience.
- Experience with systems, distributed, or embedded systems.
- Linux operating-system knowledge, including operating-system concepts and CPU, memory, and system architecture.
- Multithreaded programming experience, including use of mutexes and locks.
- Knowledge of algorithms and data structures, and experience writing performant code.
- Experience with debugging and profiling tools such as GDB and perf.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in the overall architecture of software systems for products and solutions.
- Experience designing and integrating software systems running on multiple platform types into an overall architecture.
- Experience evaluating software testing processes and methodologies, including writing and executing test plans, debugging, and using testing scripts and tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, mastery of English and the local language, and ability to communicate product architectures and design proposals and negotiate options at senior-management levels.

- Experience with file systems, storage, data-path work, or systems-infrastructure code.
- Knowledge of Kubernetes.
