About The Position

Etsy’s Data Platform organization builds systems and infrastructure for collecting, storing, and analyzing huge datasets in batch and streaming contexts. This role is for a Senior Engineer to join the Data Storage squad, contributing to technical strategy and driving critical projects. The position blends hands-on engineering with strategic, product-focused leadership. The engineer will be responsible for guiding tools and platforms towards a cohesive vision, ensuring alignment with business priorities, and incorporating the latest industry capabilities to unlock new opportunities for internal customers. Direct communication with customers is expected to ensure work is tightly aligned with their needs. The technical staff at Etsy believes that code is craft, and that the work done is part of a larger creative culture. This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, Data Storage.

Requirements

Strong communication skills for influencing stakeholders across teams and leadership levels.
Familiarity with tools like BigQuery, Iceberg, and cloud storage at scale.
Experience writing and tuning sophisticated SQL queries for data exploration and analysis.
Ability to guide architectural direction while being receptive to feedback.
Collaborative mindset, and comfort working with a diverse range of roles and departments.
Interest and experience mentoring and growing other engineers.
Flexibility with languages and tools and a willingness to learn whatever is necessary to get the job done.

Responsibilities

Contribute directly to projects, shaping technical direction, and collaborating with customers.
Engage in engineering and development work.
Guide colleagues in technical decisions.
Deeply understand problem spaces.
Mentor engineers.
Collaborate closely with engineering managers, product managers, internal data customers, and other engineers to design robust end-to-end solutions.
Incorporate industry trends that can drive business value.
Help build alignment and support for ideas.
Create presentations, write technical documentation, and share insights widely across a variety of stakeholders.
Assume that the role will encompass other tasks, and that job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.
